Hello All,
Rocco is doing great. He is gaining weight nicely. He has adjusted to city life nicely and everyone loves him. He went to the dog park last week for the first time and behaved impressively well. Thanks so much for giving us the opportunity to care for him!

Update from home: I renamed Buddy..Benjamin and kept Frank's name since he has had it so long, but lovingly refer to them as Benjamin Franklin. Benjamin just had his 8 wk post-shunt test and passed with flying colors. Since being allowed to eat regular dog food has put on a pound and looks a little less boney. Benjamin's sock fettish has grown since he has two laundry baskets to chose from and will litter the house with socks all day long. The behavior doesn't stop once it is bedtime either, I generally find 2-3 socks and a pair of underwear under the covers in the morning while I make the bed. He is such a strange dog, but I find him absolutely hysterical.

Note from home: Chloe is doing great. It is hard to believe how fast time has gone by. We adopted her on June 26th and cannot imagine life without her. She has really stolen our hearts and we love her so much. I think she knows we are her mommy and daddy and that she is with her forever family.
Chloe is full of energy and loves to play with her toys. She has the most adorable little overbite so her tongue often sticks out a bit. It is so cute when it doesn't because you just see the tiny little bottom puggie teeth peering out. She really is just such a sweet little girl. We have definitely settled into our routine and I think officially potty trained (we still put a very cute denim doggie diaper on her at night just in case -- although she always manages to wiggle out of it!). Chloe does eat her dinner very fast but we think that will slow down in time. Oh and she does not like wet grass! We did not have rain for the first two weeks she was with us and boy it was something to get her outside the first time it had rained! :)
Clayton had been 'camping out' on the floor with little Miss because we were getting up multiple times during the night to let her out and we wanted to ease her into the bed with our other two little angels -- Pugsley and Wednesday. This past Saturday we made the leap and now she is in the bed! Luckily Clayton and I have a king size bed. With 3 Puggies you need it! Clayton and all three little ones slept until 10 Saturday morning which is a record for Chloe!

Update from Home (5/25): We love him so much, he is great! He has adapted to Connecticut very well. Good thing it has been a pretty DRY spring. As you must know he HATES the wet grass. It's really funny trying to get him to move away from the cover of the eves to pee.
He is getting along great with his siblings and his humans. We are so lucky to have him.

Update from home: Frank is doing very well with his diabetes and seems to have found his steady state. We had our potty training issues in the beginning but everyone seems to be doing much better. Frank has adapted very well with the other dogs and kinda melts into the crowd. I have to make a point of pulling him out so he can have his special Frank time.

Frank has been settling in and he's defintetly Ricky's pug. I'm just the #2 human in his world. Frank loves to be around Ricky and when he leaves Frank "settles"' for me lol. He started to poop outside during walks which has made us very happy. He's very affectionate and loves lap time. We also taught him "go to crate" which he recently started doing without a fight. I attached a pic of them having a nap.

Note from home: I just can't tell you how happy I am with Doug (formerly Grover, I changed his name, he responded instantly to it and to me it suits him with his happy-go-lucky attitude). He is my Doug Pug! From day one we just fit together, he loves his walks and cuddle time (he would literally sit on my head if I let him). He knows how to sit, lay, come and paw, we are working on stay, he just gets so excited if food is involved. I would have to thank Virginia, his foster mom, I'm sure she helped him learn these commands.

Update from Home (6/6/10): I adopted a special needs pug named Harley. Harley was found at age 3 dragging himself along a roadside during winter partially paralyzed, with a Harley Davidson collar choking his neck. When MAPR rescued from a kill shelter he was full of intestinal worms, ear mites, full of feces and incontinent. He was brought into a fabulous foster home and I adopted him soon after to join our 3 yr old female fawn pug. He was taken to a Vet Neurologist in Vienna, VA had an MRI and further spinal surgery. Harley now can walk,(although he looks like he is drunk and somewhat unsteady)he has bowl and bladder control, which a belly band assists. We had a special seat made for the back of our motorcycle, and he wears his “doggles” eye glasses so he can now ride and get his “need for speed”. I can not begin to tell you the love and joy this dog has brought into my families life. Harley follows me everywhere. Prior to surgery he would drag himself around and now he can walk staring at me with his brown eyes. If I have a bad day in Harley’s eyes I am an angel. He is a constant reminder that special needs dogs remind us of our blessings

Update from home (6/6/10): Hefner is doing really well. He is the sweetest dog ever. He loves being with people especially me and he is just so affectionate. He mastered the dog doors within a few hours and went to work with me everyday the first week because I was afraid to leave him by himself until he was comfortable with his surroundings. He has now decided that work is not that fun and would prefer to stay home. (He will not do things he doesn't like and will just lay down and refuse to move.) It is really quite funny. I love him very much and it is like he has been here all his life. Thanks so much for letting me adopt him. Jan

Jax (formerly Jack) and Roxy (formerly Willow) are 2 of Chloe's pups. They are the best little guys!!! Roxy is so cute with her short little legs and Jax looks like a little boxer!! Everyone who meets them loves them and they love everybody as well!! But I always get asked "Are they really from the same litter?"!!!
They have done very well from day one. After just a couple of days, they were sleeping through the night in their crate. They have very good appetites, in fact I haven't found ANYTHING that they won't at least TRY to eat!!!

Update from home: Joey's pretty much settled in I would say.
Enjoys exploring the neighborhood and the park on his walks, also met a few new friends. His nails have already worn down a lot with the concrete walks. Plan to take him a few blocks down to the harbor next (when it warms up) and the dog park.
He loves having the company 24-7, just took him a few days to realize that when I'm home during the day it's sleep-time for me and not play-time haha.
Had some friends over to meet him/watch football and he had a blast. No stranger anxiety whatsoever! (well except for the UPS and postal service guys)
Other than that, he's been spending most his time chasing toys up and down the house and sleeping on the couch.

Oh Christa, what a beautiful "Glamour Shot" of Katie..Thank u so much for forwarding it to me....Katie has adjusted to her new family and home very quickly...it seems like she has been with us forever..she snuggles in bed at night with me or my other senior Sookie..when the weather was nice she loves being outside in the sun...she is so affectionate and loving..her hearing does not seem to be a hinderence at all...we clipped her nails and Dr. Raymond gave her a physical, just some signs of old age (i can relate) but other than that healthy and quite active for an older gal....we love her..thank u so much..will keep you updated , donna

Ruby Tuesday (previously Lola) adopted by The Lewis Family
Note from home: Since the first day Ruby Tuesday stepped foot into our home, an eternal sunshine began to shine. She has the most uplifting, sweet personality anyone could ever ask for. In the beginning, when she was waking me up at 5am to go potty, I peeled off the warm covers and took her with a smile as her expression and wake up kisses were so genuine, I loved taking care of her. Every night, I look forward to putting my children to bed, just so I can cuddle with Ruby and not have to share her:) She is loved by everyone who meets her and on more then one occasion, someone has threatened to steal her from us:) She is wonderful with our 2 children and all animals she encounters. She has really taken care of our family as much as we have taken care of her. We thank MAPR, Melinda, and Robin for the extra care they took in finding her for us. Now we all take care of each other.

Message from home 4/10/10: Lucy's new name is Sika, and she is doing well. We recently adopted her in early March & she has adapted quite well. We took her off her diaper so that we can work on house-training her, & she's only had a couple of accidents thus far, so she's a quick learner. As was suggested by her foster mom, Jen, we got Sika into a routine so that she could learn to potty outside. We walk her first thing in the morning, then we feed her & walk her again. While we're at work, she stays in her crate, & since she is already crate-trained, she's done fine there. Then we walk her as soon as we get home, & then again after she's had her dinner, & sometimes just before we go to bed. She is definitely happy to see us when we get home from work, & we give her lots of love so she knows we're happy to see her too. She often wants to play with us, so she'll grab one of her toys to let us know, as you can see from the pic attached. She definitely enjoys the Spring weather, that's for sure, so we take her out with us during the weekends, & she loves going for car rides! She's got her own doggie bed now, & sleeps right across our bedroom door so she can see us... in the beginning she cried a little but she adjusted within a couple of days. She's just a joy to have & we're excited as ever.

Leland (formerly known as Owen) is such a nice addition to our family. He truly is a sweetheart, who wants nothing more than to be near you at all times. Oh, and eat, sleep and snore like all other pugs! He and his older brother Earl get along quite well and are now starting to snuggle each other when they nap! I have attached a picture of the two of them on their couch - Earl is on the left, Leland on the right. Our vet wants to keep Leland on his seizure medicine for a couple more months just to be safe. We're happy to say that he has not had any seizures in the month that we've had him and hopefully we can start weening him off it very soon!

Stella
Adopted March 2010
Vines/Reynold Family
Maryland
Update from Home 4/7/10: We are so fortunate to have Stella as a part of our family. She has adapted very well, and she is just the perfect little pug.
Since we live in the city, she does walk on a leash to go outside. Prior to coming to us, I don't think she had spent much time on a leash, but she quickly adjusted with no problem. Now, when I ask her if she's ready to go outside for a walk, she runs to the door excited and has no problem walking with the leash to the park across the street.
She's precious in so many ways. She has the typical pug snoring which I love. And in true pug fashion, she walks with me from room to room as I work around the house doing laundry or cleaning. We have hardwood floors, so she enjoys the pillows and beds that we've placed around the home for her. I work from home, and she spends a lot of time with me in my office. I'm at my desk, and she's sleeping on a large pillow nearby. If I get up to grab a glass of water in the kitchen, she jumps up to follow me into the next room and then follows me back to the office for another nap while I get back to work.
At 8 years old, we have not found her to be a fan of the toys we have provided. Instead, she is content cuddled up next to you or just getting loving scratches and pets from you directly. If you stop scratching her back and stomach too quickly, she takes her paw and pats your hand to remind you to get back to work.

Update from Home: I just adopted wonderful little Toby, who was being fostered in TN. It's been a little over a week that he's been her in MD with me and I absolutely adore him! He is my first pug, and he surpasses all of the expectations that I had. He's adjusted really well and his cat sister Lucy is doing well with him too. I love all the snorts, snores and belly rubbing I get suckered into doing! :)
I feel so lucky that I get to be his pug mom forever and ever!

Update from Home 5/17: This is Winston Bartholomew and I've been in my new forever home for a little over one week now. I love it here with my new brothers and sisters and especially like to play with my bones stuffed with peanut butter . . taking them from Ming-Ming and running up on the bed with them, then throwing them down on the floor in front of Ming-Ming again and teasing him!
This weekend is the Greek Festival down the street at the Greek Orthodox cathedral, and I saw so many people walking by! They stopped to say hello to me in the front yard and told me how cute I was.
Update from Home 5/09: He's adopted well and loves to be outside, going outside with me everytime I open the door. He jumps up on my 3 1/2' tall bed without having to use the bedsteps as well.
He seems to be particularly enamored with his new sister Cissy, who is probably about 6-8 years of age but is partially blind and deaf. She seems to like his attention, including his nibbling of her ears and licking her forehead.
Winston is so cute because he jumps up on my lap everytime I sit down at the computer!
