Abbie/Jules now called "Percy"
adopted 2009
The Hodge Family
North Carolina
UPDATE!: We absolutely love her and it is like she has been here forever. Here's a picture of her and my other recent adoptee, Otis, with me and my 4 year old niece sledding during our recent winter weather event.

Adopted November 2009

Just wanted to share our "success story". Today marks the 2 weeks since we got Ody (MAPR name was "Adam"). Here are some photos--you will notice that he likes to cuddle next to our other black/white pug, Peppermint (Pepper is the younger pug with white paws; Ody has more gray hair on his face): Thank you again Christa, Katie, Tina, and to all who were involved in getting Ody to us!

Bebe now called EMMA
adopted July 2009
The Cheatham Family
Virginia

UPDATE!:
Emma is truly blossoming everyday before our eyes. She has a team of doctors who are overseeing her demodex treatment, and within the six weeks she has been with us, her condition has greatly improved. She has lost all of her "dead" hair and healthy hair is now growing in very fast. She no longer has scabs or dander all over her body and her wrinkle is infection free. In fact, her skin is now very soft and smooth like a baby's bottom. She has also gained quite a bit of weight -- weighing in at a hefty 13 lbs! She is definitely feeling better and becoming a puppy more and more every day. We continue to work with her on her commands, and she is 90% potty trained. She makes it easy for us to know when she has to go potty because she'll just jump up from whatever she is doing and run off. When we catch up to her, we'll find her at the door running in circles wagging her pug butt like crazy. (It reminds us of a little kid who is crossing their legs to help them hold it.) Between sleeping, eating, and playing with and stealing toys from her big pug brother, Chester, she is really loving her new royal pug life. One of her favorite pastimes is to ride in the car. She is quite fascinated with the sunroof in our car when we have it open because she'll just sit and look out of it for most of the trip. It still amazes us how much she trusts people and just gives so much love to anyone who says hello to her. We can't even begin to imagine what she went through before she was found wandering the streets in TN and taken into her wonderful foster family's home. We know she still remembers those awful moments on the streets based on her reactions to certain noises and environments; it is during those times we really hold on to her tight to reinforce that she is safe now. She is such a joy and has the sweetest disposition. We couldn't have asked for a better pug to join our family.

UPDATE July 2009!:
thought you might enjoy this picture of Betty and her newest toy. She loves this squeaky bone! I don't know if you can tell by this picture, but her fur is growing in under her neck from the sides. I think eventually she'll get it all back. We really enjoy her, quirks and all!

adopted July 2009
The Arnold Family
Virginia

UPDATE!:
Well, thanks to your time, effort, love and dedication, you've made the Arnold family one big happy family! Emily and Chris are madly in love with Bogey, and I think the feeling is mutual! (yes, we're keeping his name.) We've had an awesome FIRST day home. He is such a doll baby. Gentle, sweet and playful too. He slept like a champ last night, took an afternoon nap with the kids, really loves his walks and loved his bath too. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts....we're so happy that he's finally home!!!!
Boozer
adopted October 2009
The Saxon Family
Virginia

UPDATE 10-5-09!: I just wanted to forward you some pictures of Boozer with his brothers in his new home that we took after picking him up from Jennifer yesterday morning! We had a great ride home and the boys are all getting adjusted well! There have been no fights or accidents in the house and I think Boozer is making the transition like a trooper! Our boys are enjoying watching him root through the toy box and they all have been watching each other with an interested eye! King Kirby, our largest pug, taught Boozer to use the dog door much like he did when Barbi and Hendrix came to visit. The three of them are constantly together following us should Frank or I leave the room. We're taking the crew to the vet on Thursday so Boozer can get checked out...but wanted you all to know how very happy we are to have found our missing brother through MAPR. *MAPR note: Boozer is the black pug. :-)

Bugsy now called "Diesel"
adopted 2009
The Iverson Family
Washington D.C.

UPDATE!: Diesel (formerly Bugsy) is doing great. He has adapted well to his new home and loves to play with his friends at the dog park. Everyone compliments on how stoic and well behaved he is. He was just at the vet and was given a clean bill of health and no longer has any ear infection issues, although he wasn't a fan of getting his nails clipped. MAPR definitely fulfilled all the requirements when connecting Diesel and myself. He is Awesome!
Buster
adopted 2009
The Yantis Family
Tennessee

UPDATE! July 2009:
Buster is doing wonderful. He has been renamed to Peanut Buster..lol....but he has settled in quite nicely. He had his first Puppy Latte from Starbucks this weekend (whip cream in a cup) and was very excited when we went for our second one on the way home from Ohio. He enjoyed visiting my friends Katrina Rescue (lab named Walter) after he realized that Walter was not going ot hurt him. My bigger little 4-legged boy is enjoying him tremedoulsy and have discovered that they can body slam each other on the bed and it doesn't hurt as much as the hard wood floors!! So there for, we have UPFC (Ultimate pug fighting challenges) at all hours of the night....and for the most part he shares most everything with him except his spot beside me at night...and sometimes, he gives that up, but not too often and not for long.

Chester
adopted 2009
The Goode Family

UPDATE!:
Chester is doing great! Raleigh and I love him. Chester loves spending time with the family. In the beginning he also displayed signs of separation anxiety when we leave the house. I did some research and got him a kong and DAP plug in. Both seem to have solved the issue and Chester feels much better about us leaving now. Chester is a very important part of this family and has certainly found his forever home. It's so hard to think that anybody would give him up!! I'm so happy with the adoption process and the work you guys do to help all the puggies out there! It's great to see what's going on at MAPR. Here's a picture of Chester and his fur brother Otis.
China now called Chin-Chi
adopted 2009

UPDATE: a poem from her new family

There is a pug who's fit and snug
Asleep it seems upon my rug.
She snores and snorts as if it's sports,
With dreams that float from distant ports.
I think of her when time goes purr -
Our precious one with blackened fur.

Coco
adopted March 2009

UPDATE!: just wanted to let you know how Coco is doing. She is the sweetest dog. On the way back to our house on Tues., I gave her a puppy chew bone and for two hours she chewed on the bone in her crate and then slept for the last hour of the trip. When we got home, she ran all over the house and sniffed everything. Tuesday night we put her in the crate but she was not happy. She whined for a while, and of course, the softies that we are, we put her in bed with us and she was very happy. So, of course, she will now be sleeping with us. She sleeps all night with us and gets up with me for work at 5:30am. She has been pottying outside most of the time with only a few accidents. She has settled in nicely with us and seems very comfortable. We just love her and will take good care of her. She has met 3 of the grandchildren and is a little timid with them but I am sure she will come around.

Eeyore

UPDATE!:He was a "foster failure"---meaning: I couldn't let him go. He is now a permanent part of the Morris' Family. Eeyore's Story from the MAPR Available Pugs Page: Hi, my name is Eeyore and I am truly a product of the holiday season. I have much to be thankful for as I almost didn't have Thanksgiving this year. You see, I was dropped off at a shelter where once they had me examined by a veterinarian, it was decided my medical needs were too costly and I was to be euthanized. This was two days before Thanksgiving. Thankfully, there were two angels, a wonderful vet tech and a member/adopter of MAPR, who kept this from happening. The vet tech took me home and a the MAPR member tracked me down, resulting in the two meeting the day before Thanksgiving to transport me to my foster mothers home. I came to my foster mom, missing a little hair, covered in fleas, blind, one eye deformed, skinny (12lbs) and terrified. All I wanted was to be held.....Think about it, five new places and people in five days! Foster mom bathed me in special shampoo, cleaned my ears as best she could and cuddled me as I found myself in a warm home with lots of foster brothers and a sister. Friday when I visited the vet, we were told I would need both eyes removed and my ear canals were swollen shut. I was in a lot of pain from the infections in my eyes and ears. Foster mom didn't blink an eye, appointments were made, medications and instructions were taken and off we went. How could I be afraid anymore when everyone kept telling me they loved me and I would be better soon, never to be mistreated again? To ensure my recovery and to help with that next bundle of fur, earmarked for death, I ask that you join the MAPR group of angels with any donation you can make. No donation is too small. Every dollar counts! I promise to keep everyone updated on my progress. Love, Eeyore Fostered in Roanoke, VA

UPDATE! OCT 2009!: Gordy is doing great though. I think his ear may have cleared up, I switched him to Blue Holistic Dog food that was free of any possible food allergens and have used the meds from the vet and so far so good. He is the most lovable pug I have ever had and loves nothing more than to snuggle with mommy so that means I don't get very much down around the house because I am a sucker. All our pugs get along so well and my others just know that he is special and take "care of him." Gordy made a big impression on everybody including the guys from the show RESCUE INK on National Geographic and VICTORIA STILLWELL from Animal Planets "Its me or the Dog" when we went to the Puppy Mill Awareness Day and Woofstock in Lancaster two weeks ago. Who wouldn't love this special boy, I say!

Update from home: Just wanted to send an update about Yogi (the pug formerly known as Guiseppe). He is doing great in his new home here in Washington DC. He adapted very well to his new environment (now a city dog) and loves to play with the neighbor golden retriever. He is in good health (though always seems to be hungry!). He is very energetic and loves to go to the dog park. We are extremely happy with him and thanks to MAPR for matching us up. He's the best.

UPDATE!: AN ODE TO HOPE By Andy Grosso
Dedicated to Hope and her foster parents: Jon and Martine Helton

They say you were found, discarded and old, In a midnight box at a shelter's door. A wondering gaze, the story is told, From a nameless face with a sad implore. The things that you sought you had not known, "Would you love me please, and bring me home?" From box to a cage, you went alone, Then to Rescue's arms and safety's dome. To a foster home with furry friends, And foster dad and mom, and time to mend. Still reward had met not yet its ends, For years neglect, one more gift to make amend. We made a call, for hope we had: A friend for now, not what had passed, Who loved the good, yet knew the bad, Who'd love us back because we cared. So you came, with smiling eyes And wagging tail and singing woof. Our home has grown despite your size. If life means hope you are the proof. Each morning's day you dance the floor, Then seek to nap in daddy's lap. When evening comes you man the door To jump and sing your "howdy!" yap. Your hairs seem gray, your spirit not. Our time each day is time enough. Each kiss, each pet, each walk a shot To learn life's truth: it's not all rough. To your Rescue there's much that's due, They soothed your path and helped you cope. And to the one that made life new: Your foster mom – who named you Hope.
J.D.
adopted January 2009
UPDATE!:J.D. is doing great. My other two pugs love him and kiss him all day. He is so gentle with my tiny pug while keeping up with my larger pug that likes to play rough. They push each other to the limit and then lie side by side while gathering energy for the next round. Its only been a few weeks but it seems like we've had J.D. his whole life. I was originally concerned that adding a third pug would take something away from the great chemistry we had with our first two pugs but J.D. has only made a great thing even better. I swear, sometimes when my original pugs lick me now, I think that they are thanking me for J.D... So, a big thank you from me and my pugs to all the helpful volunteers from MAPR.

UPDATE!:Two weeks ago we opened our hearts and home to a third pug. This time this is a little fellow named Jake. This picture was taken a day after his arrival when they were napping on the bed we share with them. Let us use this opportunity that we decided to become volunteers for MAPR and that each of you ought to consider it as it is a very rewarding form of volunteering. Who else can be a spokeperson for these little guys? Jake and his sister Daphne (big bone girl) are playing most of the time. Their sister Daisy does play whenever she feels like it. He tries to be a pack leader however, this is not working as Daisy simply is by far the big mama of our group. They love the evening time when Mom is coming home and the after diner when it is time to chase the house cat and then we all sleep on dad laps, head and waist (if mom is out of town for work). Having a third one is the right combination.

UPDATE!:
Georgie (as we now call him) is great. I have attached some pictures. To say he likes water is an understatement as we could not get him out of my daughter's wading pool on Sunday. He was the street attraction as he spun around in circles chasing bits of grass in the water. He then jumped into the bathtub during my daughter's bath! He and the cats are getting along great. It was about 2 sniffs and they were all fast friends. He seems to be settling down well and is very affectionate. As I type he is asleep in his dog bed in my office next to my desk.

He LOVES to sleep in the bed with us and our other pug and dachshund. At night, I say, ‘ok who wants to go to bed?’ and Leo and Roxy (the dachshund) race up the stairs. Oscar, our other pug hangs out with my husband for a little while longer. Leo enjoys taking naps next to the vent so he can feel the a/c and is fantastic on walks. He's been enjoying marking all of the branches and leaves in the neighborhood :-) No major accidents in the house (fingers crossed :-)). Thank you very much for the extra belly band --we really appreciate it and will be on the lookout. We went to the vet tonight and dropped in the Petco next door for a brush and some goodies. I got a 6 month supply of the flea and heartworm -- we'll give him the Frontline this weekend. The vet said all of his internal organs sound very good. Lucky seemed to enjoy the outing and meeting new people. We will keep you posted and hope to have a chance to take some pictures soon. Lucky is so sweet and funny -- he was actually watching TV last night and barking along. Thank you for letting us adopt him :-)

UPDATE April 2009!!
Malcolm is doing great. The girls have loved having him here and he seems very fond of them too. He's walking much better on a leash and doesn't pull quite as much. Malcolm hasn't tried to escape from us in weeks, so we are taking that as a good sign. He and our 12 year old golden are getting along too! They have gone from ignoring each other to standing together and kissing each other. Hopefully we will get to lounging together. Malcolm as a few beds in the house but he has decided that any available lap is best. We are so thrilled with our new guy we can't thank MAPR enough! Also our special heartfelt thanks to the Cole Family for keeping him safe and loved until we found him!

UPDATE July 2009:
He has been completely wonderful! He is not only laid back for his young age, but he is such a snuggle bug. He and Asia snuggle next to each other whenever they are resting. Max has the greatest disposition; he loves taking walks and I have discovered that he will do tricks to receive treats. Max will speak on command, he sits, he gives paw and he lays down when given a cue...he loves car rides and visiting Granny and Pap. Max's new Grandparents adore him as much as his new mom does. He does not mark, which has really suprised me, and is house broken. We have only had a handful of accidents but this was due to adjusting to the new home. Max has had run of the house for only a few hours at a time and has been great! This has been one of the greatest experiences!

UPDATE JULY 2009!:
Hi there! Remember me? I'm Miss Maggie. I have some wonderful news to tell you about! Things have changed so much. I have seen 3 different doctors about my leg, and it has been decided that I will get to keep my leg.... for now anyway. It will depend on how the joints do. I may need it removed later.... BUT NOT NOW! I only have to take pain meds on the days my leg hurts. We also confirmed that I am blind. My mom has known it though. But that's ok, my parents house has no steps, and I know the house, so all is good. Mom and Dad know me very well, so our lives together have turned into a well-oiled machine. They know just the things I need. I must say that I love being spoiled. My mom or dad lift me up and down on the furniture and the bed. I'm still having problems with my ears. No matter what we do, I keep getting those rotten ear infections. So, now I am on cyclosporine every other day and I get yummy yogurt in my dinner. Mom says my whole attitude has changed. I have gotten over my abusive past pretty much. I have become very vocal and playful. I'm not afraid of men anymore. (Now that I know I will never be hurt again.) I even get excited when dad gets home and bark happily at him. I love my siblings. Even though I have disabilities, that doesn't stop me from chasing and playing with them all the time. Sometimes I even show them who's boss. Yep that's right.... me. Well I have to get back to playing and sleeping now, but I just wanted to thank everyone for all their help !! Without you all, I couldn't have gotten to see the doctors that I needed to and I wouldn't be in my forever home. Mom & Dad say we are all lucky. They can't imagine not having me.

Where to begin? Well I guess the best way is to let you know that Olive is no more. Don’t get worried. Although Olive came home with us, after a few days we realized that she was hiding a secret personality (and she wasn’t answering too well to Olive) thus BELLA was born! We couldn’t go back to the “other” name as like you, we couldn’t bring ourselves to it. So we tried to find a name close in sound. Bella fit so well and she responded to it right away. And she truly is our “beautiful” little girl. Good news is the name Olive is now free again.

She and Taz get along nicely. There were a few challenging moments early on (one of which she drew blood). But over time, they have settled in to each other as she knows that this is now her forever home. She continues to sprawl for her belly rubs while looking up at you with those big eyes. She follows us around wherever we go and of course she snores (which she is doing right now). She loves to play tug and rip through the house like a puppy. For an old lady she can get up! She is still a bit nervous in the car, but we see improvement. For Christmas, we had a nine hour car ride. She had her moments, but it was a significant improvement from our first car ride home from your house back in September. While at my parents’ house for the holiday, my family, in particular my mother just fell in love with her. She was constantly getting those belly rubs…and lots of treats. I just wanted to take a moment to send you a lil pug love (Taz on left, Bella on right) to close out 2009 and say happy New Year.

UPDATE!:
We had many odd behaviors and issues when he first came. With patience and time he overcame his constant pacing, bowel problems, and trust issues with humans. He was adopted out briefly for only a couple days. He was brought back to me with very vague explanation of he just wasn't doing well with them. Well, I had missed him terribly in those few days and decided to have him live with me forever after. It was the best decision I could have made. He still has some puppy in him but he is maturing into a wonderful and calmer family member. He is funny and creates new antics everyday to entertain us with. He learned how to cuddle on the couch and has also become my shadow throughout the day looking at me with his soulful and intelligent eyes. He has become a real joy for all of us. My husband works from home and Phin knows he is not allowed in there all the time so he will peak his head around the door and look at my husband with "pound puppy" eyes until my husband relents and calls him in. Phin jumps to his lap, plays for a few minutes and then politely leaves. My husband is very smart but Phin has learned to read him very well. We are so blessed to have met him and thrilled to have him here forever.

UPDATE April 2009!:Pixie is doing wonderful. She and I have started training classes, and she was the calmest dog in the group. She loves her new home and has a blast playing catch, running up and down the stairs, and trying to chase the many birds and squirrels that live on my street. We've met some good dogs and some not so good dogs on out walks. She is my baby now and we love each other very much. We are still very grateful about you guys fostering her. UPDATE! July 2009:

Pongo is doing great. He's not a huge fan of going to the bathroom on the leash, so that has been a learning process. If we take a nice, long walk, he'll finally go, but there's no rushing him. I know he's used to just going when he needs to on the farm, so I've started giving him a treat whenever he goes when we walk, and that's getting better. He's still sleeping with one of the boys each night, and we've been able to leave him out of the crate when we go out. He's doing really well with that. He has an affinity for stuffed animals with eyes that he can chew out, so my kids are learning the hard way to pick up their toys. I knew they would learn one day;) He's really doing great, and we all love him. I'm a runner and he's been coming with me on my runs a few times a week. Our other dog got too old for that, so it's been nice to have company. Usually I'm dragging Pongo by the end of the run, so he's definitely getting plenty of exercise. He cracks me up with all the little quirks that you warned me about. He loves to bury his bones in my laundry!
We really appreciate the fact that you let us have Pongo. He's been a great addition to the family!

I want to thank you, Barbi, for all the time and effort you put into finding him a good home. He's exactly the kind of dog we were looking for, and we're very grateful for your help!

Punky

UPDATE! Oct 2009: Punky's new family picked her up in October 2009. She quickly took to an active, urban lifestyle--visiting a dog park, exploring a craft fair, and enjoying a late al fresco lunch all during her first day in the nation's capital. At home with her 2 daddies, Punky spends lots of time catching up on sleep, shaking the life out of her many stuffed toys, and being overwhelmed with love. Punky's foster mom--a great foster in Baltimore--made incredible progress with her training, and her new dads are working to further calm her social anxieties. In her first month, she's learning to walk without tugging on her lead, to be more friendly with other dogs, and to stay calm while sitting on laps. The benefit of her dads' undivided attention--and the absence of other dogs--has helped Punky adjust to a new family quickly. She loves snuggling under the covers at bedtime and rolling over for belly rubs just after she wakes every morning. And on the weekend, she loves to steal a few licks of foam from the top of her daddy's latte. And, obviously, Punky's daddies love to spend time together with her--on long walks, on the couch and out on the town. Thanks to MAPR's thoughtful match-making, their lives are more full and more joyful than they ever imagined.

UPDATE!: He is settling in well. He and SherryJ (formerly Hazel, MAPR adopted 2/08) are getting along great. He has helped SherryJ become a bit more playful. He is my husband's buddy! They rough-house for a bit, then Rambo snuggles up on my husband's lap until its bedtime. This has made SherryJ a little jealous and now she wants more of Daddy's attention. Thank you again for our new addition. I have had numerous people ask about where we got our babies and we always tell them MAPR and rave about how great everyone is that we have worked with.
both adopted from MAPR

UPDATE!:We cannot thank MAPR enough for finding our little boy. Reggie is a wonderful addition to our family and we are extremely pleased with how quickly he bonded with us and his sister Roxie (formerly Trixie). The two of them love to follow one another and you can frequently find them napping together. He also enjoys having his belly rubbed and his chin scratched. We recently introduced Reggie to our extended family (both humans and dogs) and it was as if he had always been with us. He is an incredible guy and we love him so much. Thank you again for all of the hard work and love that you put into the rescue. Both Reggie and Roxie have changed our lives and we are so blessed that they decided to pick us to be their forever parents.

Update from home: Riley is still quite a handful, but> that's Riley! My husband calls her a "real piece of work" and I call> her "Miss High-Maintenance", but she's so loving and affectionate and> funny and sweet. She has taken to letting me know she's ready for> breakfast by bringing her (heavy ceramic) food bowl to me in bed!> We're amazed at how she is able to do this! She still sleeps all night> under the covers snuggled up against me, and I wonder how she can> breathe! She loves to visit the nursing home where my Mother-in-law> lives, and all the residents get a kick out of her. We're still> working on the potty training and separation anxiety, but she's doing> better with those.

We are happy to introduce our new addition to the family Rollie McCuan Boyle. He's an 8 year old pug that we rescued with the help of the Mid Atlantic Pug Rescue. He's a sweetheart and very well behaved so a good way to help Cleo and Franklin adjust to a dog without dealing with the puppy woes. Rollie (pronounced Raleigh-it was his name before and we didn't want to start an identity crisis) had a rough time with his 1st owner and was mostly kept in a small carrier and neglected but thanks to his foster mommy he is is friendly and in great shape (his middle name is our tribute to her hard work). -Jess and Eamon

Update 12/09
Roscoe is doing so well. He has settled in so well, and is the joy of my life. He goes everywhere with me, and people cant believe he had been with me for less than 2 months. He is still a bit shy of strangers and other dogs, but he is beginning to get more friendly with others. When it comes to him and I, we just cant get enough of each other. He is doing really well on an all natural, free range, no grain diet (freeze dried raw, by Stella and Chewy's, he goes nuts over it) and is very active. He has lost a fair amount of weight, and is looking great. Thanks for checking in, he is the most amazing addition to my life, and I love him dearly!

update!:Finally!--a good picture of my Sam. He usually turns head or moves while I'm taking his picture. He is laying on his rug on our screened in porch. Which by the way is HIS porch-- he lets us use it occasionally. Sam is wonderful. We are so thankful he found his way into our lives. We will always be grateful to Paulette for rescuing our little man.

Scrappy Jack
A "SPECIAL" SUCCESS

UPDATE!:Scrappy Jack visited the St. James Girl Scout Troop who saved their change and donated to his medical care. In October, Scrappy was at RePets Rescue Center in Bowling Green being cared for. He was very sick, had a broken jaw, infected eye (that had to be removed), was anemic from flea bites, and has hip dysplasia. When he was first turned in, no one was sure if he would even survive. I had been invited to talk to the girls at their meeting about 'good pet care', the importance of making wise decisions about what kind of pet to get, quality foods, people food that is bad for their dogs, etc. The Girl Scouts had collected new beds, shampoo, bowls, toys, gently used blankets and towels, and saved their change for a month (to earn a badge). They donated all goods to RePets for the animals in the rescue, and the change for Scrappy Jack's vet bill. In emailing back and forth with the Director, she asked me if I would be interested in adopting him (and she wasn't taking applications for him yet)...so how could I say 'no'? :-) I picked him up the Friday before Thanksgiving, and he's settled right in with our little 'family'. The girls didn't know that I adopted him, and we surprised them at their meeting last night. I told them that they have "officially" done their first rescue! Scrappy had a 'thank you' note and photo for each girl. Trying to train the next generation!

A special Note from MAPR to Karen & The Girl Scouts :
Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful Happily Ever After story with us!!! You all did a great job rescuing Scrappy Jack & taking such great care of him. Awesome job, Ladies!!!!!

UPDATE AUG 2009!:
Sophie is doing fantastic. She loves her new home and has had no problems with her adopted sister and brothers. Her sight and hearing problems have not been issues for her; she has learned her way around and many are surprised to learn of her handicaps. She's a great addition to the family - she has a wonderful kind old soul.

UPDATE!:
I am so happy to report that Sophie is doing GREAT!!!!! We actually had our 7 week follow-up visit from her eye surgeries on Friday. She truly is a beautiful, lovely, well-mannered, well-behaved, well-tempered, sweet dog...she just melts the heart of all who meet her! She gets 2-3 walks a day, we go to the dog park- she loves it and does so well- very well socialized. She gets lots of love...she is well cared for. We are still in training on some commands and getting her to go down the stairs. She gained a pound; she is now at 16 lbs, which is where her vet wants her. I am doing better, too! I was a nervous, worried, new 'mom'. We are all well-adjusted now and we give her positive, calm, assertive energy...can you tell we love the Dog Whisperer!?!

UPDATE!March 2009:
Her name was Stella, we named her Bella. We actually got her in November, 2008 but the adoption was not final until January, 2009. She is just the sweetest little pug. She is estimated to be 10-13 years old. She was spayed in December and found to have ovarian and mammary gland cancer. We take her to a vet for holistic treatment. So far she is doing well, has a great appetite (I prepare most of her food, she has gained 5 needed pounds since we got her), loves her walks, loves when Tom comes home from work. She starts looking out the window before he gets here and barks and runs to the door when she sees him pull in. We love her so much, such a gentle, kind little pug. Even the vet that did the spay surgery remarks how sweet she is. We also have 2 other rescue pugs. Love them all. Thank you for all you do.

UPDATE JULY 2009:
I just want to let you know what a joy it is to have Josie, as our new family member. She is such a great dog...even our three cats are on their way to accepting her (not an easy task for them!). She is becoming well-trained and listens when I tell her to "sit", "stay" and "no", when it comes to the cats' food. She follows me everywhere I go in the house and is my little shadow -- she and our alpha cat are becoming a duo in that regard. It is hard to believe that anyone would give Josie up or that she spent a whole month in a shelter before Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue got her. She is very social and blends well with our friends and other pets. My children love her and we can't imagine her not being with us. Thanks to you and all the pug rescue team who work so hard to save these precious animals. We hope to be invited to pug social events and bring Josie, with us!

Thank you so much for your e-mail. We are so delighted to have Tug. We have only had him a little more than a month but can't believe what we did without him. He is so much fun and is a great little companion around the house! We certainly enjoy getting him ready to take on walks. He gets so excited that getting his harness on him was nearly impossible at first but have finally got it down where we can get it on him while he runs and jumps around. We are hoping Tug enjoys our company as much as we enjoy his. Here is a picture of him in his bed. He spent the first two days constantly licking it but now he loves to sleep in it...and of course, there is plenty of cute snoring. Best regards,
Mark & Sydney

UPDATE 12-07-09!!!:Happy Holiday from Twinky and Bitsy!!!

UPDATE: 7/1/09
Twinky (L) Bitsy (R)
We knew we wanted another pug just after we adopted Bitsy from MAPR last year. We also knew Twinky was going to be a perfect fit from the moment we saw her picture on the site. We fell in love with the hairless mange covered Twink. We've now welcomed her into our home and her and Bitsy play and cuddle as if they were raised together. Twinky has adapted to our lifestyle very quickly. She loves playing pug-o-war with all the toys and loves chasing and wrestling with Bitsy. We have also realized that she can be a great cuddler with us after shes worn herself out. We're still treating the mange and hope to have this cleared soon! Thanks again to all the wonderful volunteers with MAPR and especially her awesome foster mom, Barbi Cole!! Pug hugs, licks and sniffs!

My son and I absolutely ADORE him, and his tail has literally not stopped wagging (except when he is asleep) since his arrival on Sunday. I think he believes he has died and gone to heaven. We live in one of the most dog-centric neighborhoods in DC. We take him to our dog park at least three times a day, where -- despite the fact that I believe he has spent little time around other dogs (before coming to Kathy's) -- he fits right in. He really wants to make friends, but seems amazingly patient and imperturbable if his proferred handshake is not returned. Although we do not expect perfection, he has not had a single accident (hasn't even tried to mark inside, although he seems to have gallons available when it comes to marking every bush, tree and fire hydrant in his new neighborhood!)

Andres and I can't help ourselves and shower him with love constantly (we will need to tone down the baby talk at SOME time), and Molly, the pug contessa, is warming up to him. You have truly enriched all of our lives and brought a lot of laughter (and face licks) to our home. This will be an especially blessed holiday season for our family.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

UPDATE! AUG 2009:
We affectionately call Ya-Ya our "little bugger". She has figured out how to get on the dining room table to check out the candy dish. Out of dozens of doggie toys, Ya-Ya's favorite thing to chew is Mom's plastic hair clips. Ya-Ya is mischievous and into everything. My 10 year old daughter just loves to dress Ya-Ya up in costumes and take her picture. But when Ya-Ya is sleepy, she jumps onto my daughter's bed and cuddles close for some belly rubs and loves.
We would like thank MAPR for providing (now two!) perfect additions to our family.

(Ya-Ya is Teddy Ruxpin's new sister---both adopted from MAPR)
