Abby adopted Sept. 2008 Washington D.C. UPDATE!:
Abby joined our little family on September 20, 2008. Abby is totally adorable and we could not be happier with her and her easy going style. Abby is enjoying sitting on the couch, watching television, and eating with her new family members. Also, she is bonding nicely with her new sister. We are so thankful to all the wonderful people at MAPR who helped bring Abby the Pug into our lives!'

Agatha now called ANNIE adopted on Feb 12 2008 The Weber Family North Carolina
UPDATE!: Things with Annie are great! She has made huge progress in the past several weeks. When I first got her, her tail was tucked constantly, and now it is almost always curly and wagging! She has started to enjoy meeting new people, and we have made a few trips to Petsmart so she can meet other dogs.
Her pug personality comes out more and more every week; when she first arrived, she was timid and skittish, and now she alternates between wrestling with the throw pillows on the couch, begging for treats, and snoozing on my bed. She loves taking walks in the neighborhood -- during our last walk we met a Great Dane named Gus. (The look on her face when that giant dog sniffed her butt was priceless!)

Annie adopted 2008 The Schumann/Bui Family Virginia
UPDATE!:She seems to be happy to be with us and enjoys her daily walks. We've also been to the dog park a few times, and one gigantic pug meetup (Northern Virginia Pug Meetup) with at least 20 pugs, I'd say. She had a blast with the other pugs :) Since that day, she runs to the car whenever we go outside! We've also taken her on outings to Petsmart and to have dinner at restaurants with outdoor seating (she is a perfect lady when we go to dinner). Dan has taught her some impressive tricks in the past week or two. She already knew "sit" when she came home with us. Since then, we have taught her "go to your room" (the crate) and "stay". Most fun of all, Dan has an old bicycle tire that is like a small hoola hoop. Now she will jump through it when he holds it up a few feet above the ground and says "hoop" (for a treat, of course). She's so good at it, the thought has crossed my mind that she might enjoy agility sports. She is very fit for a pug!
Dan and I are completely in love with her, and we're so glad we found her. She has met my parents and my sister and they are smitten, too. I've attached another photo of Annie and we'll probably enter 1 or 2 more pictures in the calendar contest, just because we can't decide which ones are best!! Her pug face is so sweet that everybody who sees her wants to pet her, and she loves meeting new people and dogs (although she seems to prefer the little dogs to the bigger ones). We feel very lucky to have found our Annie and we are learning a lot as new pug parents. Thanks to everyone at MAPR!

Annie & Zack adopted Nov. 2008 The Herman Family
Update!: We adopted Annie and Zack November 2008. We could not have asked for better pugs! The folks at MAPR were so friendly and helpful pairing us with these two great pugs. Adopting is the way to go!!
Update 2009!:They are doing great. They have been taking advantage of this nice weather we are having and running around the yard. A lot of times we have to go pick them up to get them back inside. Zack hasn't had an accident in the house for over a month now so we are really proud of him. Annie is still on her diet and looking great. When people come over that haven't seen her in a while they cant believe how much weight she has lost. I have attached a few pictures of them on their favorite hangout - the recliner

Ruby is doing great in her new home with her sisters. Roxy 3 yrs old is the Mom and Mistysue 2 yrs old is the lover. Ruby is right in the middle of them both, although she is a lover with her dad. She just loves him so much, when he comes home or enters the room she is right there showing him a toy and prancing around for him it is so funny. They have all found their place in the pack and sleep great together. Of course that is on Mom and Dad's bed. My girls just complete my life and I wish everyone could feel the love and joy that pugs give you. Thanks to MAPR my family is whole!!!!

Bambam now called Brutus adopted March 16 2008 The Morris Family Maryland
UPDATE!: I am happy to report that Brutus is almost 100% housebroken thanks in large part to his pug brother, Waldo. Brutus just started following everything that Waldo does and that helped a great deal. We still crate him during the day while we are gone, but he hasn't had an accident while we are at home in over two weeks. We are very proud of him. He is learning his new name and is very affectionate with the whole family. Here is Brutus and his brother Waldo (a Maryland Pug Rescue pug). Brutus is on the left.

Bandit now called Scrappy-Doo Thomas Family Tennessee
UPDATE!: Scrappy-Do is doing just fine as you can see from the photos. She and the original Bandit still are not the best of friends but they get along very well. I think they would miss each other if one was gone. They both want all the attention! Scrappy is a lap-girl all the way. She is always sitting on somebody. She is good about sharing her time with each of us. Jordan loves her so much as do Charles and I also. She sleeps with her boy, Jordan, every night. She is a real snuggle bunny! She gets to go for rides pretty regular and go for walks every evening. She is such a sweet girl and we are so lucky to have her. She has found her "forever home" as I cannot even imagine her not being here. She was a perfect choice for Jordan and I want to thank you, Angie, for opening your home to take care of her until we found her. It was love at first sight. Thanks again so very much for all that you do. You are truly appreciated. I still cannot understand how someone could abandon such a precious little girl like Scrappy!

Baxter adopted on 5/2/08 The Cook/Lambdin family Pennsylvania
UPDATE!: He is doing very well despite his poor eye sight and navigates the house and stairs with ease. We have had absolutely no agression issues with him. He allows us to clean his wrinkles, ears and give his eye drops daily. We took him to the vet and he is pleased with his health. He is now down to 29lbs and our vet says he only has 2 more to go! While he and Feargus do not play together, they get along well. They are learning they can share bones and laps. He has been a great addition to our family!!

|
Baxter adopted Sept 27th 2008 The West Family North Carolina
UPDATE! May 2009: Here is a picture of us from this past fall when he went with us to Edenton, NC to visit my grandmother. He loves going on trips with us and is an excellent rider! He even loves Katie's constant "Loving" as she can't seem to leave him alone and wants to sit with or play with him non-stop. Katie and Cody both love having him, and David and I fight over his "snuggle time" with us while we watch TV at night. The minute we sit down, he is in our laps!
Just want to thank you again MAPR! We couldn't have chosen a better, more loveable dog!

Bell does love to play with Jessie. They both run around and tussel with each other but it's all play. At night time Jessie & Bell sleep in our bed. I'm so glad that we decided to add a new puggle to our family--Jessie seems so much more active now.

My years of experience as a special education teacher has helped me to work on positive behavior support with Bijou. Thanks to everyone at MAPR for all that you do! We want to thank Jennifer for answering hundreds of questions for us and Lisa-Ann for putting in a good word for us with Debbie! Bijou thanks you too!

Bill adopted 2008 The Cleary Family Virginia
UPDATE!!! Dec 2008: Bill and I are doing great! Have had one session with the Trainer. He is having alot of fun with the training and all the treats that go with it. He started laying on my lap about two weeks ago. Also if he is laying next to me on the sofa he'll often put his head on my leg. Or if he is on top of the sofa he'll rest his head on my shoulder. All of this just melts my heart. Last Sunday a friend took Bill and I along with six others and their dogs to a Dog Park here. Bill LOVED being able to run without a leash. He really enjoyed running with the other dogs that were there. Even with him being the smallest dog in the pack he'd run right up with the big dogs. He also enjoyed running and barking. He went up to each Human there and said hello and got petted. There were about 16 dogs in the park for the hour we were there, including the others from our group. Happy Holidays to all of you and all of the pugs. Ps:One thing I'll never forget is when I came to pick up Bill and knocked on your door.. all of a sudden there were 5 or 6 pugs looking at me throught the glass. That was one of the Happiest sights I have ever seen. Most of all I'll never forget all of your help and kindness and of the others at MAPR. Thanks again.

Bitsy now called "Lilly" adopted by The Hess/Gore Family North Carolina UPDATE! Things with Bitsy are wonderful! We knew she was adorable the second we saw her picture, but we have truly fallen head over heels in love with her since we brought her home last weekend. Our experience with every volunteer at MAPR was delightful and everyone was so willing to help. We have learned that Bitsy has so much love to give and that she really does like cuddling in bed each night under the covers. She also seems to be a 'mommy's' girl, which is fine with me! Everyone who has met her thinks she is adorable and they all seem to think she is spoiled, but for us, it's just love. She has found a playmate locally, another pug that belongs to a friend of mine. They play so well together. I look forward to receiving the yahoo request and meeting other local pug forever families locally. Thank you so much for all you do, and for allowing Bitsy to join our family!!

Baby Jane now called "Bizzy" adopted 2008 The Elmes Family Virginia UPDATE!:Bizzy, the black pug, was named Baby Jane when she was in foster care. We are doing great! She and Cinda get along so well. Bizzy is still very much the puppy which is good for almost 7 year old Cinda (the SPCA rescue) because they tear around like mad and play a lot. Bizzy is very adaptable-we spent 2 months away from home and I have taken both of them back and forth to try to get my Mother’s house ready for sale. She is a real trooper. We’re really happy with her!

Brooklyn adopted by The Clark Family Virginia UPDATE! 5-15-08: Yoda and Brooklyn have finally gotten used to each other being around. I took this photo a few hours ago. They spend their days sleeping together, fighting over who gets the toy (Brooklyn usually wins!) and kissing each other. Yep, that last one is a new development. They actually sit and kiss each other---we feel we should leave the room! Right now they are playing tug of war with a toy. I'm so happy that Brooklyn loves toys as much as Yoda does. Of course she tries to eat some of them so the giant toy pile on our landing has gotten a little smaller! But I credit Brooklyn with getting Yoda back into shape. They chase each other all over the house and just generally have a great time together. And she's still a cuddler. It's probably what I love about her most. A snuggle from her can get you out of a bad mood almost instantly! Honestly, we can't remember what it was like to only have one dog. It feels like 2 is the perfect number and we can't imagine our life without Brooklyn in it. So, thanks again to MAPR for helping her find us. It's a perfect fit!

BRUTUS adopted July 2008 The Deitz Family Pennsylvania
UPDATE!: Oct. 2008 He is doing just great! All I can say is that he has brought so much love and happiness to our home it is just amazing. The kids are much more excited to see him when they come home form school they just run past me and go to Brutus!!! And...Brutus, of course, jumps all around and gives kisses.....or, "drive-by licks" as his foster mommy, Adel, called them!!! Too cute! I have wanted a pug for many, many years and now I know why. Brutus LOVES car rides....his morning and evening walks and lots of belly rubs!!!! As soon as he sees me go for my purse or keys...he takes off to the backdoor and scratches at the door to get out for his car ride!!! He should have been called "Shadow" as he follows me around ALL day from room to room. All I can say is thank you so much for bringing the love of a pug to our home!!!!

Bojangles formerly known as Bubba adopted March 2008 The Hagan Family Maryland
UPDATE!: We adopted Bubba on March 8. We have changed his name to Bojangles (Bo for short). He has really adapted to his new home wonderfully. He loves curling up with us wherever we sit down and can't get enough of tug of war and fetch. He and his sister are getting used to each other -lots of sibling rivalry for attention - but they have really done even better than we could have imagined. He is gaining weight slowly (we have never seen an overly skinny pug before!) We took him to the vet and they are happy with the weight gain plan we have him on. Overall, he is doing really well. He loves all of the other doggies and people in his adopted pack. He is an energetic love bug - he just plays and plays and plays till he plops down in your lap. Now that we are feeding him Ensure along with his meals, he is finally getting some meat on his bones. He now weights as much as his sister, though he will need to gain more still. We couldn't be happier with our new addition.

Bubbles
Adopted by The Boyd family
North Carolina
UPDATE!
Bubbles is adjusting so well to her new home! Better than expected! She and her new brother had one snip at each other the first day and that was it! They've been buddies ever since. I was really worried about them adjusting to one another and how well it would go, but I couldn't have asked for it to go better. They sleep against one another and pile on top of me when I sit on the couch. Bubbles tries to push her brother out of the way to get more attention. It's so cute! We took her on her first trip to the beach with us. She didn't like the water, but enjoyed lounging in the sand. My heart is so filled with pug love and I couldn't be happier with my two babies:) They are the joy of my life. Thanks so much for everything!

Bubby adopted 2008 The Almanza Family Maryland
UPDATE 2009!: We would like to start by saying thanks to everyone at MAPR who takes care of these little angels! Without all of you, Bubby (we kept his name b/c he knew it) wouldn’t be here with us and we just can’t imagine our lives without him. His separation anxiety and shyness issues have subsided significantly over the last month (he is the greeter at doggy day care on the days he is there – we are such proud parents) we are certain in no time he will own the house and we will just live here. In the short time Bubby has been with us, he has found his place in our hearts forever. We couldn’t have asked for more in a dog than Bubby has brought to our lives. I know, I know it sounds drippy sappy but it is so , so true. Bubby is a comedian (he’ll wake himself up snoring or pooting and look at us as if we are the offenders and move), lap dog, bed and cover hog, snuggle bug, best friend and guard dog (he barks at sirens in his sleep, always letting us know when there is trouble) all wrapped up in the cutest little face we’ve ever seen. All this little one ever asks is for dinner (he turns circles when he’s ready) and a lap. We are so lucky to have him in our lives, he loves us so much and we adore him. Here's a new picture of Bubby (aka Bubbs, Bubbinator, Bubbalooey) for your enjoyment…thanks again everyone!

Buddy adopted August 2008 The Pratt Family West Virginia
UPDATE!!: We felt it would be better not to change Buddy’s name. We just added to it. He is now Buddy O’Riley – Buddy O. Buddy is a sweatheart. He seems right at home with his new pug brother, Purvis Dudley and pug sister, Lucy Lu. Lucy is a little jealous of him, but she understands that he is just a baby. He loves to go outside and run in the back yard. He likes going to the barn with me, to feed the burros. He cries to ride in the front seat when we go in the car. I took him and his brother and sister to see the vet, dressed in their Halloween outfits. When we got home, they helped give out treats. He loves to take naps with his mommie. He sleeps against Dad’s back at night. If he wakes up and mom is not in bed, he goes looking for her. He loves to let me hold him like a baby. He has learned to go up and down the steps, to get in and out of bed. We can’t wait until spring, when we open the pool, to see if he will like swimming. His big brother, Purvis, sure hopes he does. There is nothing better than a house full of pug love!!

Buddy now called "BRUNO" adopted Dec 2008 The Mills Family Virginia UPDATE!: When we first got him he was very skittish and seemed to be afraid of everything. If one of us picked up an object he would run and hide as though he was afraid of being hit. Any object, umbrella, jacket, remote control you name it. This made us very sad for what might have happened in his early youth. However, we have been working with him diligently and loving him as much as two sets of arms (and another set of paws) can. He seems to be quickly regaining his confidence and "owning" his space. He is still afraid of the vacuum cleaner, but then again, he is a boy. He plays well with our older pug Iggy and they have hours of fun. Hours... and hours... and hours... In their first week of being together they have grown so attached that they won't "go" outside without being escorted by the other. He has been a great addition to our family and we're looking forward to the holidays with him. We are very glad to have him in our home. He makes us smile and laugh every day and his innocence brings tears to our eyes.

Buddy formerly known as Teddy adopted April 5th 2008 The Madoule Family Connecticut
UPDATE!: From the moment we entered the foster home, we knew Teddy was meant to be ours. Teddy immediately greeted us with tons of kisses and melted our hearts. I remember bringing Teddy home, he was so incredibly scared to walk into our house that we had to carry him inside and hold him until he was comfortable. However, with lots of love, reassurance, and some structure, Teddy has grown from a fragile, timid, and nervous Pug to a social, energetic, playful, and loving, pup. Teddy loves to play Tug-O-War, go for car rides, run free around the yard, and wrestle for hours with his Pug brother Bailey. Although Teddy loves his Dad, he is definitely a Mama's boy...Mom's little sidekick. We take the boys to a monthly Pug meet and Teddy has the time of his life. He does though periodically come to check that his Mom and Dad are still at their chairs watching him. Teddy favorite activity of all though...trips to Home Depot because he's allowed to go in the cart and into the store. Teddy now spends his days enjoying life, looking to his brother Bailey as to how they can cause some trouble. Bailey and Teddy are inseparable and just love one another. Thank you so much MAPR for all of your support and for bringing this little angel to our lives. It has truly been an amazing experience.

Bugsy now called "Dublin" adopted Oct 2008 The Wills Family Virginia
UPDATE!:Dublin has been a perfect fit for our family! We aren't sure what his background is since he was pulled from a shelter so we had to do some adjusting to some aggression he had out of fear. Now that he knows that he is here for good, he is a lot more relaxed and comfortable! He has three sisters- one pug, Heidi, and two kitties and he does great with all of them! Heidi thinks that he is her long lost brother - from the moment we brought him home she has just fallen in love with him! They love to play tug of war, chase each other, and snuggle on the couch. When we got Dublin he didn't even know what the word "treat" meant - so sad! Now when he hears a word that sounds like "treat" he will come running so fast that he slides on the wood floors into the kitchen! He is so sweet and loving and even though we adopted him before meeting him, we couldn't have asked for better! He is so well behaved and a very quick learner. He is not big into licking faces but one of our favorite things is he will come up to us and get as close as he can get to our face and just look at us and sniff as long as we will let him - we call them Dublin kisses! Thanks to his foster mom, Dawn (and her husband, who met us halfway to adopt him!) and all of the awesome volunteers at MAPR - we appreciate all of your help and advice in adopting Dublin and helping him adjust to his new home!

Buttercup
|
 |
|
Buttercup adopted Oct 2008 The Pyzynski Family New York UPDATE!: We are the lucky family that adopted Buttercup. She came from Martine’s wonderful home as a foster. Buttercup was “one of the gang” there, now she is the only dog and a bit of a princess. Our family has had a terrible two years with many illnesses and the loss of my sister and mother. Our 14 year old daughter wanted a dog for years but we used to “winter sit” our friend’s dog Maggie when they went to Florida. Since Maggie was old, I didn’t want another dog upsetting her. Maggie passed away a few months ago and that is when we started to look for a new addition to our family. A puggle was a perfect choice as our daughter wanted a pug and we used to have a beagle. Buttercup is slowly getting used to being an only dog. She is so easy to train and has such a wonderful disposition. We just love her and think the feelings are mutual.

Cagney now known as Hercules adopted by The Lucas Family South Carolina UPDATE! Cagney is now Hercules! He is the sweetest dog! He loves to cuddle and thinks he is a cat. He has learned where the food is- if we don't close the closet door he will be in there rooting around for food. He gets up on the table and prances around looking to score left over snacks. He gets on the coffee tables and drinks out of our glasses or eats whatever he can find on the tray table. He picks fights with the other pugs and runs to us for protection. He doesn't like to go outside at night in the cold. He sneaks to bed when it gets about the time to go out for the last time hoping we will forget to go get him. We are so lucky to have him. Everyday I want to call the people that mistreated him and tell them what a treasure he is. He is definitely a trip!

Ceasar & Max adopted Nov. 2008 The Hamilton Family Virginia
UPDATE Feb 2009!:Darrell and I are having a wonderful time with our boys. They are a never-ending source of laughs. Big brother, Max(aka: Wheezer or Prozac). Prozac, because the energizer bunny has nothing on him. He wheezes when excited or comes in from running outside. Little brother, Ceasar (aka:Stitch or Baby). He reminds us of Stitch from Disney's movie Lilo and Stitch. Pick him up and cradle him in your arms within seconds he's asleep! He loves to sleep this way, he's better than any baby doll I ever had. Their very first night here was the beginning and the end for their crate. They now sleep with us. We are going to need a bigger bed this year. Ceasar is content to lay at my side or between us on his back. Max though he prefers to sleep cross ways in bed. One morning I woke to find him on my pillow curled around the top of my head. Good thing I'm a heavy sleeper! Today they went to see the Vet for nail trimmings. Caesar was an angel. My Prozac child needed to be held down. Both weighed 17 pounds when we got them. They are weighing in at 19 pounds now. Darrell and I are both guilty of spoiling them with tidbits from table and their beloved snacks. Santa brought them each a new bed for Christmas. Usually thought they share one bed. Darrell and I have come to realize their bond with each other is strong. They must always be near each other; especially when sleeping. Our loss was great when Hercules passed away in October. He is our reason for falling in love with the breed. Max and Caesar are our very special gifts and we rejoice every day for them, their breed, and their antics. Thank you Very Much, MAPR!

Charlie now called IGBY adopted Feb 21 2008 The Gilmore Family Washington D.C.
UPDATE!:isn't he SO handsome? He loves this little rubber duck! He is a wonderful fit for Lola and I. He is one of the most loving and low-key pugs I have ever met! He acts as if he's lived here for months. When I brought him home he was pretty nervous but as soon as he saw Lola his tail was wagging. He has been eating well and loves to sleep on the couch and on the bed. And, when I came home after running an errand yesterday he and Lola were in their crate together (I had left the crate door open and baby-gated the room where the crate is). He is getting used to his harness... it's not his favorite thing. But, he is fabulous at leash walking because he follows Lola and I when we walk. He does not like going down stairs, so I have been carrying him and will grab some treats and work on it little by little. However, he is fine going up. We are working on the housetraining - the weather of the past couple of days has not helped...pugs in general do not seem to enjoy cold, icy weather. But, we'll keep at it...he is most definitely in his forever home, whether it takes a month or a year to get his house training down. I just can't express my gratitude in words for this little guy.

Clarabelle now known as "Pixie" adopted 2008 The McDermott Family Pennsylvania
UPDATE!: Pixie is truly a wonderful dog, full of energy and fun. She is the first one up every morning (5-5:30), goes outside, eats breakfast, falls back to sleep for another hour or two, then waits excitedly to go to the park. She is friendly with every person and dog she meets, and behaves very well. She is a real favorite. She went to her first pug meet on July 5th, and everyone loved her. She had a little 4th of July head piece on, and she kept it on. She was so adorable. We all feel so lucky to have her.

Clover and Ginger adopted May 2008 The Blatner Family Virginia
UPDATE!:Both girls are doing well. They have picked up the nick name of "The Spice Girls" and both have cute halloween costumes, ready to meet the trick or treaters.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcJyZUxco_g
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf1PNy3x53Y&NR=1
Both are extremely good dogs and wake me when then need to go out. My vet and an ophthamology specialist have prescribed a cyclosporin gel for Ginger's one dry eye that has made a huge improvement in her tear production and she seems much more comfortable. They also have made some great doggie friends. They love Digby, a teammate's Great Dane. We bring them all to softball and flag football games and they love to play together. Both have adjusted very well to me and my life. They love to sleep with me (and take over the bed), they know just the time before the alarm goes off to jump on me to get extra love and attention. They are just very sweet little dogs and get lots of love and attention!

Linus now called "Cruiser" adopted July 13th 2008 The Dorsey Family Maryland
UPDATE!:He is doing great!! When he first got here, he was a little skittish about everything, but he is starting to come out of his shell. He has been playing with his pug brother, Pubie. They like running around together and playing tug of war with one of the many stuffed animals that we have around the house. He has found the joy of bully sticks and will chew them for hours if we let him. He has picked up a lot of things from his big brother including you don’t eat food without anything on it and when you see the food dishes you have to do the “foodie dance”. Just the other day, I gave him his food plain and he looked at me like I was crazy!!! He has also claimed one of the many doggie beds we have lying around the house and will sit there and watch TV or go to sleep. We are working on going down stairs too. He is really funny because he will go up the stairs with no problem, but will not go down the stairs without a leash. When he is ready to go down the stairs he will bark like he is saying "Come get me, I'm ready!!!" His expressions are so funny. He looks like an old man and he will come running when you say Cruiser Wooser. He loves treats. He will even sit for a treat and will take it from my hands. He has met all of the neighborhood pugs and he is curious about them. When he gets a little more comfortable we are going to take him to obedience classes to get him more training and socialization. He has claimed the dining room as his domain and can be usually be found under the table under one of the chairs keeping guard. Thanks so much for being so patient with us. Our pug family is now complete thanks to MAPR!!!!

Daisy adopted June 30 2008 The Wimpfheimer Family North Carolina
UPDATE! May 2009!:This is Daisy, who I adopted from MAPR in June 2008. I still call her Daisy or Doodle, because she is a funny little girl.
This picture was from a party last month, where Daisy was very friendly with the children; they walked her nicely around the yard until they decided to take a break on the chaise.
At home, Daisy gets along well with her 3 cat sisters, but still likes to chase her cat brother down the hall. I think the reason Daisy does not get along well with other dogs is because A. She's a cat in a pug suit or B. She really a little girl! She feels very pretty when the groomer paints her nails. But she doens't like to get her feet wet, so getting her outside in rainy weather is a trick. Daisy loves car rides and has taken a few road trips from NC to NJ. We have to measure her kibble to keep her weight steady, but she does get plenty of exercise. I am lucky to have found such a sweet little puggie to share my home with!

Daisy Mae adopted April 2008 The Meadows/Hayes Family Maryland UPDATE! May '08:I adopted DaisyMae, with the help of Shana and Debbie, and she is an absolute perfect fit to me and my black pug, Murphy. She has sparked renewed playfulness in Murphy and they run and play consistently in our spacious backyard. They play so hard that at night she flops down in my lap and within minutes is snoring. We have not had any problems, going on two weeks. She is eager to please and gives and accepts love unconditionally. She loves her new brother!! Thank you and your organization for giving us Daisy Mae to love!
Pug hugs,
Angela, Murphy, DaisyMae

Daphne & Daisy adopted by The Ast Family Virginia
UPDATE! Feb 2009: Our Mom and Dad buy us really cool nylabones that we just love to chew. Most times though we prefer to take them from each other instead of just chewing our own. We had a really nice birthday. Mom tried to find me another yellow duck to replace the one I loved to death but they don't appear to be around anymore so instead she got us these purple ones which are fine but just not the same. We are both very happy here and our parents love us very much. Daphne follows Mom around everywhere and his with her constantly. I am becoming Dad's special pet, however, she is still a very independeny cus. Daphne and I have been talking between us and have decided that we would like brother to torture. If you happen upon a male black pug on the youngish side, would you please tell our Mom and Dad. They clearly do not have enough to do with just the two of us. Please send all our love and kisses to Audrey and include our belated birthday wishes to Wally.

Darla now called CHLOE adopted Apr 4th 2008 The Burner Family Virginia
UPDATE!:Our little Chloe has settled in SO nicely and we absolutely love and adore her. She wants to cuddle in my lap all the time. She and our other pug, Gracie, are getting along well and they love playing together. I had prepared myself for an adjustment process getting Chloe into a routine and giving the two pugs time to adjust. I have to say though, it has been an absolute breeze! It seems as if Chloe has been part of our family for years. We are so lucky to have such a lovable, happy girl in our lives! She listens really well and is not having any behavioral issues. All of the MAPR volunteers were absolutely wonderful and we cannot thank them enough. Debbie Gretz was so sweet and helpful. She was so pleasant and took time to answer all of our questions and make sure Chloe was a good match for us. We really cannot thank you enough for our little girl, and we're so glad MAPR is out there doing this kind of work! Trevor and I would love to volunteer! Chloe sends lots of pug kisses to her MAPR friends :)

Diamond now called "Bella" adopted April 2008 The Dottavio Family Maryland
UPDATE Oct 2008!: Bella (the black pug in photo) is awesome... she is doing great! She sleeps in the bed every night with us. Her and Bear get along great. They play and cuddle all the time. The vet got her so she will stop chewing on her tail. She is the princess of the house and unfortunately knows it. Thank you for all your help and I spread the word about MAPR and how wonderful you guys are.

Donny now called "Dude" adopted July 2008 The Simpson/Saul Family
UPDATE!:We have had Dude for about 10 days now, and we are starting to see little changes in his behavior that indicate he is getting more comfortable in his new home. He is very happy to snuggle on the couch in the evening, and he is also slowly rediscovering his love of toys by spending some time each night trying to get a treat out of his Kong. He does very well with his new routine—he likes to take long walks in the morning and the evenings to “see and be seen” by some of the other neighborhood dogs, and he really likes going to work with my husband every day, where he splits his time between sleeping under the desk, greeting clients when they come through the door and attracting attention in the park at lunch time. He loves meeting new people and he’s been very tolerant and sweet to everyone, including our 1 year old niece. Once he figures out that 11PM to 6AM is not the best time to demonstrate his talent for endurance barking, we will be all set! Thanks to everyone at MAPR who facilitated the process for us and have generously responded with advice about how to ensure a quiet bedtime!

Duncan adopted July 2008 The Boyer Family Virginia
UPDATE!: Duncan is a joy. We are really thrilled with him and his easy adjustment into the family. He and our Boston, Chrissy, have become great pals. Since his arrival, he has learned what toys are for,and I have to say my house looks like I have a 2 year. He goes from 1 to another. The other night my husband and I watched a movie with a constant squeak from Duncan's duck, for the entire 2 hours. He has learned when I hold up the leash, it is time for a walk and he gets very excited. He knows night, night means time to jump in bed and everyone get into position. He really seems to enjoy his fenced in yard and chasing Chrissy around. As my daughter said to me, now that you have Duncan, you can be happy again. That has proven to be true. My husband and I love him and he has us laughing evey day. He is very sweet and affectionate. We could not have asked for more and we are very pleased and grateful. Thank you!

Dutch & Missy both pugs adopted in 2008 The Miller Family
UPDATE!: Both are doing fantastic! They've been to my vet and we've created a thorough regiment of care for both pugs including supplements, special wet and dry food, a few meds for arthritis, and a scheduled dental for Dutch. They are both getting along well with my other pugs and are not (yet) as spoiled as they are, but getting there! Both enjoy sleeping on my bed at night and follow me around constantly (especially Dutch) like I'm some kind of rock star! They are both absolutely a joy to have around. Thanks so much again to everyone for helping to get this adoption arranged and completed. I want everyone to know that it is a great success!

Elf is doing well at a ripe age (@ 14) and loving his laying around time with Molly who is also getting up there(11).

Ellyadopted 2008 The Titus Family
Update March 2009!: Elly loves zipping around the house on her new rocket legs -- after her knee surgery, she became quite a leaper -- and has learned that any kitchen sound means she's most likely about to get another treat. The other dogs have shown her the ropes: when to bark and when to chase. After showing up at our house that wintery night, in shock and scared of every new thing, she now knows how to make the most of her days by napping and chewing and cracking us up. We are so lucky to have her.

Eloise formerly known as Tallulah adopted Sept 2008 The Cryan Family
Update!: I cannot even begin to tell you how much Eloise means to me. She has snuffled, snorted, and harumphed her way into my heart... I absolutely ADORE her...and she knows it, that silly pug! Eloise has become a real "working girl"...she comes to work with me nearly every day, and spends her days in the lap of luxury, either making the rounds and visiting with her new office friends (who spoil her rotten) or sleeping on her bed in front of the window while I earn us money for pug treats. The other day I had to leave her at home and the office just wasn't the same.....it's official: every office needs a pug! Thank you, MAPR, for bringing Eloise into my life. I will be eternally grateful!

Ernie adopted 2008 The Southard Family
UPDATE! May 2009!: We just wanted to let you know that Ernie is doing great. We adopted him from MAPR in Sept 2008, so we have had him for 9 wonderful months now. Him and his little brother Iggy are best buds. Ernie is such a character and so laid back. He just wants to eat, sleep and get as many pug hugs as possible. Our life is now complete. Thank you Debbie and MAPR.

|
Falcon now called Buddy adopted May 2008 The Ahlstedt Family South Carolina
UPDATE!: He has settled in nicely with all of us. He is really a Daddies boy when my husband is home, but he also likes to be part of the pug pile. You can see that in the picture. We still don't know about his hip, the appointment is this week for new x-rays, after that I will let you know what and how it goes. In the meantime, he is fine with his pills, I know when he needs an extra one because the same weather causes me problems, too. pug hugs to you from our pug pile,
Del, April, and all the dogs

Flora now called "Piper" adopted May 2008 The Dales Family Virginia
UPDATE!:Piper, formerly known as Flora came to us in April 2008. She has blossomed into a sweet, beautiful and loving member of our family! We can not imagine our lives without her! She has gained weight (15 lbs when she came, 20 lbs as of a week ago). Her fur has filled into a soft thick coat. We have watched her sweet, loving & playful personality emerge! She gets so excited when David is making their breakfast & dinner. She doesn't just wag her tail- her whole body wiggles with excitement. She is almost 100% housebroken. She gets along well with her fur brothers. She gives her brother, Brutus, a run for his money. She has mastered the bob & weave move to keep him from stealing her toy from her mouth. She loves to lay next to her big brother, Draco, on the heating pad for a afternoon nap. She has over come so much in her short life. I hate to think what may have happened to her without the angels at MAPR. MAPR is the reason so many pugs have survived and found loving, permanent homes! We are very honored MAPR allowed us to make her a member of our family.

Gidget adopted July 2008 The Gillis Family Florida
UPDATE! Jan 2009: We are enjoying Gidget very much! Gidget is such a great pug/boston mix. We couldn’t be happier with her. She is the best dog ever! Gidget loves to snuggle up with us and she has charmed her way into our bed. It is nice to wake up to her little face. Gidget is very well behaved. She has had wonderful training from her foster mom (Robin) and we hired Bark Busters to help out with our training with her. Everyone always comments on how much of a great dog Gidget is and how surprised they are that she listens. She puts her love spell on people. Thank you MAPR for selecting us to be Gidget’s forever family. We are extremely happy with her and can’t imagine our lives with out her. We always say on our way home from work “there is a Gidget waiting at home for us”. I never thought I would fall this much in love with a dog…but here I am completely smitten with her. Thanks again and Happy New Year!

GUS adopted July 2008 The Stock Family Maryland
UPDATE!: We love having our first black puggy! Gus is a happy, lovable pug that likes to run around in circles when excited. We call him "Big Boy or Big Bear." Thank you MAPR!
new update, straight from Gus, Oct 2008!: Hi guys. Gussy here, just burrowing under my mom's comforter. Life is good. I have a new pug sister. The other day we were chasing each other throughout the bedrooms just like little puppies. We got winded and had to take a break, but it was fun! I would just like to say to all of you pugs waiting for your forever homes, keep the faith, your home is out there and it will be great.

Harley adopted July 2008 The Engelbrecht Family North Carolina UPDATE!!: Everything over here is going great! Harley is completely at home and he is completely a part of the family. He is completely attached to Elsa. He even sleeps with her at night. We actually just a couple of weekends ago let him go with her to visit her dad and stay overnight with her and the other pugs because he gets so sad when she is not around. I can not say enough great things about him! He literally is the perfect dog and we love him to pieces..I am attaching a photo of him with some decorations that Elsa put on him.

Hayden now called "Gus" adopted 2008 The Adkins Family Maryland UPDATE!: Hayden (now Gus) is really doing great. His brothers are finally getting used to him and actually will give him a kiss when they think I am not watching. He is such a good natured boy, but has alot of spunk!! He is going to the vet next wednesday for his checkup and dental. He is having no problems except we have to keep the belly band on him since he still wants to mark. The vet said this might not change, but thats ok, we really love him.

Hendrix The Cole Family Virginia UPDATE!:Henny just fit in so well with our "rescue pack" that the thought of him leaving us for a new home made us all much too sad. He's our 3rd permanently adopted MAPR rescue pug. (yes, it's a hazard of fostering this wonderful breed, but life wouldn't be the same without a bunch of curly-tails underfoot!) He's wonderful with our kids and has bonded with Baby, our little female pug. We call them the "Ying Yang Pugs" because they behave like they've just always been together. We're still working on the pottying in the house issue, but hey--- it's nothing a bellyband can't handle! So, it's another Happily Ever After for this MAPR family! :-)

Hollister now called "Oscar" adopted 2008 The Foussekis Family Virginia UPDATE FEB 2009!:He is doing great!
We took him to the vet a couple weeks ago and he has lost 3 pounds so he is now down to 25 pounds. He is very active and playful. The vet called me back a couple of days ago with the outcome of the thyroid blood test and he is very pleased with the results. He said that Oscar does not need to come back until November when his next rabies shot is due. Oscar is such a sweet pug! We couldn't ask for a better pug. He is very friendly and loves everyone. He likes to be rubbed on his belly a lot and also gives lots of kisses!

Isabelle aka Izzy adopted May 2008 The Berard Family Maryland
UPDATE!:Izzy and I are doing extremely well. Her aggression issues have settled down, she is getting along with other dogs and only shows a problems when other dogs get excited, otherwise, Izzy is basically on good behavior, with exception of jumping up on people when she see them. Next week Izzy and I start 14 hours of basic dog training classes. Izzy has visited the vet for two check ups and nail clippings and the vet classified Izzy in excellent health. So at this date, I am pleased to state that the two of us are doing well. I love Izzy very much and she loves me!

Jazzy Jeff February 2008
The Greth Family VirginiA UPDATE! APRIL '08 If we didn't know better, we would believe that Jazzy has been with us for years already! What a great dog and friend! He is so sweet and so lovable with the other dogs, us and visitors. He is funny and has already developed a daily routine to include greeting our daughter when she gets home from school and also Dad when he gets home from work. He loves walks, greeting the neighbors and is a good companion! We could not have made a better choice in adopting him into our home and life. Pug rescue was a great decision! Thank you from all of us!

Joey now called "Kirby" adopted 2008 The Kiger Family Maryland UPDATE Feb 2009: Things are going well with our 3 yr old puggle, Kirby (his original name was Joey, but we had to rename him because we already had another dog with that name). When we first got him in August, he was not house-trained and had a lot of accidents, but he gradually is getting the hang of it, thanks to frequent walks around the block and potty breaks in our backyard. Kirby generally gets along pretty well with our other two dogs, and they spend a lot of the day playing and roughhousing. Our nine-year-old son is very attached to him, and in the evening Kirby cuddles with him during bedtime stories. Kirby was a bit thin when we got him, but thanks to a good diet he's filled out nicely. The one area where he needs some work is walking on a leash and obeying commands. He's a very enthusiastic walker but he pulls a lot! We hope to take him to a training class this spring.

Johnny Walker adopted October 2008 The Ott Family Virginia
UPDATE FEB.2009!: "Johnny Walker", is thriving and we are so happy to have him in our family. As he was only 9 weeks when we adopted, we had the freedom to change his name, but my 10 yr old daughter would have none of that! So, we compromised (the hubby wasn't happy having him named after cheap scotch, and I wouldn't hear of naming him Glenfiddich, so we modified to 'Johnny Rocket'). It suits him! Molly, our three year old pug, was struggling with the loss of her buddy, Barnaby (our 17 yr old orange tabby cat), and we thought adoption was the answer to fill the void and help us heal. Although there is no replacement for Barnaby, Molly has adapted to our new addition quite nicely. They play together, sleep together, walk together... everything!

|
Lady & Pip adopted 2008 The Sulfaro Family Virginia UPDATE!:Pip and Lady are both doing well. Pip is a well trained, well mannered, and very friendly and happy dog. Lady is also very sweet, but far more scrappy than Pip-- despite lacking teeth and a lower jaw, she likes to find chew toys and carry them around the house and she even manages to play with them. All in all, the adjustment process is going well. Pip seems to have a good comfort level (although he misses his human dad terribly when he's gone, and often mopes around the stairway in our front hall waiting for him). Pip has learned how to get on and off the couch, and he's enjoying a little independence. Lady follows us everywhere. She is usually standing near the front door looking out the side windows when we arrive home. On the whole, the dogs appear to be quite happy and are doing well. We're delighted to have them in our home. Thanks again for all of your assistance in the adoption process. We're particularly grateful to Melinda and Tim for taking such good care of Lady and Pip prior to their adoption.

LEO
adopted by The Buckley/Devers Family
Virginia
UPDATE!!! Leo is adjusting wonderfully to his new home. He is all pug and all boy. He follows us around the house, especially when we're in the kitchen! He seems to enjoy the neighborhood, and has already made lots of doggy and people friends. He gets compliments constantly on his double-curled tail and handsome physique. He is curious and friendly with other animals and only likes to bark at them when he is in the house looking out of our patio window -- we've guessed that he is just protecting us from those vicious squirrels and birds! He is fully housetrained and only had 2 accidents in the house in his first week with us. He stays in the kitchen during workdays with the babygate up, as many pug people suggested. On our first couple of weeks together, we made sure he got out 5-6 times per day but we've gotten that down to two long walks around the complex in the morning and evening and a short walk before bed. He is extremely well behaved and smart, and we were able to teach him not to jump on the bed at night in only a few days despite the fact that it was reported that he slept with his previous owners in bed. We actually found that he enjoys sleeping in his crate by our bed the most with his Rocky Raccoon stuffed toy that Charlene so thoughtfully brought with him. He is a chewer but only chews on his nylabones and hooves and likes when we play fetch and tug with his stuffed toys. We are able to travel to Northern Va with him to visit family and he seems to enjoy that. We feel so lucky to have found a perfect pug match and are sure that Leo agrees! We are grateful to MAPR and of course all the volunteers, but especially Charlene Moss for being patient and understanding with us being first time pug people.

Leroy adopted Feb 10th 2008 The Basha Family Washington, D.C. UPDATE! APRIL '08:LeRoy is a wonderful dog! We call him "Le Roi" or "little King". He's doing great. He's walking much much better on a leash, has never had any accidents inside, and is very affectionate. His stamina is increasing, but he's still a little lethargic/lazy. We are working on that. I still can't get him to go up steps, he seems to truly panic in front of a flight of steps. I have to carry him up and down. He's built-up my upper body strength!
But again, thanks to all of MAPR, we love this guy!!!!

Li-Li adopted Dec 21st 2008 The Datesman Family North Carolina
UPDATE!: Well what can I say, Miss LiLi (when she sits on my lap or by me taking a doggy nap is when I call her little miss LiLi) she has become the joy of our household and is "miss little personality plus", she makes us laugh and never leaves my side when I am home, she sleeps with me and Charlie on my bed. What a joy!

Libby adopted January 2008 The Zirkle family
Update!:Life is good! Since being adopted in January, I have been relaxing and enjoying life. I sleep in the big bed, nap on the couch, sunbathe on the deck, and get lots of treats. I LOVE to chew on nylabones and get belly rubs. I enjoy playing with my pug brother and sister, and am looking forward to more pugs coming to live with us. When I first got here, I wouldn't eat very much but now I race to the kitchen with everyone else for breakfast! I have even learned to use the potty outdoors most of the time! My mom says that I am the most wonderful pug ever and she just can't imagine life without me. (even though I snore like a freight train) I want to thank the wonderful people at MAPR who rescued me from my other life. They named me Liberty, which I think is a very appropriate name! I hope that everyone reading will consider adopting their own pug, or donating to MAPR to help rescue other pugs like me! Life is just better with a few pugs around!

Lily adopted 2008 The Urquhart Family North Carolina
UPDATE!!!: Lily is doing GREAT! She loves going to the dog park, so I think she really enjoyed her daily outings w/the other dogs at Pupsi instead of staying at home awaiting a pet sitter. Whenever I come to the beach, I bring her, & she enjoys her time in Raleigh w/our cat, Mr. Adrian. They lie in the sun on the stairs each day & following breakfast go out on the 2nd floor balcony for a while together to watch the passing scenery. I think that they both enjoy each other's companionship--I know *I* enjoy their companionship! When my husband & I went to Charleston recently to see our daughter & fix up her first law office, I found a charming B&B that accepts pets. Lily was the perfect guest. I can't imagine life without Lily or our dog-like cat. They add so much to our lives.

Ling-Ling adopted 2008 The Allman Family
Update Feb 2009:Ling Ling is doing fabulous. She climbs up and down the steps now and has lost the weight that was an issue. We will be at the vet for Riley's yearly, so I have Ling signed in also for a weight check and an ear check and an overall health visit. She is very food-oriented and can't wait for the morning meal and the evening meal. I am planning to take her to the nursing home to visit her previous owner.

LOLA adopt November 2008 The Nikodem Family Washington DC
UPDATE!: We adopted Lola, a 2 year old black pug, almost two weeks ago and we are already in love with her. She is adorable, well behaved, and has a fantastic personality. Her favorite things are trips to the park across the street, playing with her new toy "Mr. Turtle", and our shoes (she doesn't chew, just likes to put them in her bed). Right now she is sleeping in her new bed which she loves while I watch TV. Thank you MAPR for connecting us with Lola!

Lola now called "Bailey" adopted August 2008 The Varner Family Georgia
UPDATE!!!: I just wanted to send an update on our precious Bailey (formerly Lola). Bailey is doing fantastic! She is so sweet and energetic, and we feel so blessed to have her. She and her brother, Boss, love each other and are constantly playing or taking a break sleeping together on the couch. They are like two pea's in a pod. Bailey loves to go on walks and we try to take her and Boss on runs occassionally too, which they both love. It truly feels like we have had her forever. She has been such a wonderful addition to our family!

Louie adopted 2008 The Jauregui Family
UPDATE!!!: I'll start out with quoting my 7yr old son, Mateo..."Mom, I think Louie is the best thing that's every happened to our family." Louie has become our rowhome mascot. Every one of our neighbors has had a part in socializing him and caring for him over the summer and all have said what a great dog he is. He is GREAT with kids -- twice a week I walk him to school to drop off my kids and he is so well behaved with them. His barking has calmed down a lot, now that school has started and he has more of a schedule. He still has quite a bit of anxiety and seems aggressively protective when we come across other dogs in the neighborhood but this a work in progress and he's already made quite a bit of progress over the summer. He sleeps with me and loves to wake up my 2 kids with slobery Louie kisses. As a result, no one wakes up grumpy anymore, because Louie love has become contagious. I find that my kids have become more tender to each other in actions and words since we've had Louie. Louie is a very smart dog and has been enrolled in an obedience school starting November. Until then, I work with him daily (and him w/ me). I get so many compliments on his face and demeanor...I'm such the proud Mom...the truth is, I think Louie has rescued me more than the other way around.

Lucy adopted July 2008 The Flanders Family Maryland
UPDATE!:Lucy is absolutely wonderful. She is very well-behaved and loves to go for walks. We take her out three times a day to go potty and she always takes different walking routes. We have been working on lead training with her and she now walks like a show champ. She has a big appetite, but we have been really good about not over feeding her. She gets a milk bone after each time we take her out for a walk and she likes to save them in her dog bed. She stockpiles them and then will eat them for a mid afternoon snack. She likes to play fetch with her little toy hedgehog. We have introduced new toys, but she still loves her hedgehog. She loves car rides and kids and loves to lay on laps. Lucy will be dressed up like a pirate for Halloween. I bought her a little pirate hat and I have an eye patch for her for her one missing eye. She likes to wear the hat. I want to make her a pirate shirt because she actually likes wearing clothes. We love her so much. We would like to adopt another pug. Lucy does really well as the only dog in the house, but I am sure she would thrive with another pug friend.

LULU now called "LUNA" adopted Sept. 2008 The Turner Family Virginia
UPDATE Feb 2009! Luna (lulu) is doing great. She is still very much a puppy. Basher, our original pug, has finally accepted her as a permanent member of the family. It was a little touch and go at first. He's a little older and likes his space and nap time. She chases him around the house, but I can tell that he enjoys it too! She loves her bones and walks. She really is a great addition to our family and we couldn't have asked for anything better. She's a mama's girl and follows me around everywhere I go. The attached pictures were taken last weekend on the beach. They have a great time chasing each other on the beach or chasing the foam from the water.

Luna adopted 2008 Nuttall Family NC UPDATE Jan 2009!:Things are going great! Luna is my baby. She really doesn't care about the rest of the family but she does tolerate the kids well. She does not like my husband and barks @ him frequently. He is trying really hard to win her heart with no luck so far. Her favorite place is under our kitchen table but now that my mother-in-law has moved out she ventures out into the family room frequently, as long as "the big scary man" is not home. She loves walks to our neighborhood pool because there is good "sniffing" along the way. She gets along well with our beagle mix and my sister's lab. Luna loves big dogs. She steals Bailey's bed frequently at night time and Bailey is patient and just moves over to Luna's bed.

Max adopted 2008 The Snoderly Family
UPDATE Feb 2009!:Max is great. He has become part of the family. He is no longer the shy little guy who doesn't like men. He follows Jim around the house and yard everyday. He is the perfect companion for female pug, Belle. They love to play with their tug rope and then sleep on the sofa. Thank you for this little doll. He still sleeps on our daughter's bed each night. :-)

Mink adopted Nov 1 2008 The Stempel Family Virginia
UPDATE! Jan 2009: We are the proud family of Mink! She is doing really well now that we have convinced her that we are the boss :-) No really, she is hilarious as can be deduced by her nicknames: Minkasurous, Minkadora, Stinky Minky, Minky Moo, Minky Dinky, Mac, and, as my daughter dubbed her, Farticus (her Roman name). Our favorite trick is Mink hanging her butt over the porch to do her business when it is too cold for her delicate behind. She also now sits and waits for her dinner and greets every dog and human with more kisses than most are ready for (we call it a “doggie facial” and charge $30). She loves “liberating” plastic bottles from the recycling bin and hoarding them in her dog bed (don’t know what that’s about?!) and snuggling with us in the morning. And she had become the champion sleeper-inner on Saturday morning, a trait we find most delightful in a dog. Minky Dink will now follow the “watch me”, “leave it”, “take it”, and “sit” commands—except when the cats are involved, then she is just out of control. When Mink ignores the cats they are fine, but most of the time she wants to chase and play, which they think is so lower class, so they hiss. But the best part is when I am working on the computer (which I do all day from home) she snuggles on my lap and snores, profoundly. Many, many thanks to MAPR for bringing Mink into our lives!

Miss Bella adopted April 2008 The Holcomb Family Virginia
UPDATE!:Bella is still doing well. We've finally got her on a solid schedule and consistent feeding amounts. For a while we weren't sure how much to feed her, and if we fed her too much she would have an accident on the floor, but we've figured it out. Whenever we go to visit our respective parents, they always spoil her with treats, so she comes back fat and happy. It's funny how happy she is when either of us walk through the door after being out for any length of time. She yelps in excitement and wags her whole body, it's so funny. Sometimes she runs around the apartment and chases her tail during this period of excitement. She's a funny dog, and we sure do love her. Thanks for checking in, Bella's doing great.

Miss_Piggie now called "WEASIE" adopted April 10th 2008 The Overton Family North Carolina
UPDATE! March 2009!: Weasie is doing very well and we are doing well with her!!! It feels like we have had Weasie for years. She has lots of four legged friends and we take her everywhere she is allowed! We are really having a ball with Weasie. Weasie loves the beach, boating, swimming, shopping, afternoon car rides and walks through the neighborhood - to name a few of her activities. A few days a week, while James and I are at work Weasie goes over to play with my mother-in-law and her dog Mason. Mason is a Golden Retreaver and he and Weasie became fast friends.

Molly Sue now called "Prudence" adopted 2008 The LeGreco Family
UPDATE!!!: We're all doing very well together. I've actually renamed her Prudence (Pru for short). I couldn't really get her to respond to Molly Sue, and my best friends already have a dog named Molly. Since we (and our dogs) spend so much time together, having two Molly's would've been a bit confusing. She started responding to Pru right away, so I think she likes it. Pru has been a part of the family for a month now. She and my first pug, Gus, are getting along incredibly well. They love playing with each other & they became snuggle buddies right away. She has also settled in to our routine very well. Gus & I go for a walk almost every morning, and she's joined right in. They've had the occasional scuffle over things like chewies, but Pru is quickly learning that she can share & still have enough for herself. For the most part, it's almost like Pru has always been here. She's become a popular addition to the neighborhood. She already has 2 pug friends in addition to Gus, 4 black lab friends, a golden retriever friend, and I'm pretty sure the boxer down the street has a crush on her. In all, I think Pru is settling in quite well to our little household. I've attached a picture of Pru with her new brother Gus. They're pretty hysterical together most of the time - watching them play out in the backyard is especially fun.

Moose adopted 2008 The Alvis Family
UPDATE!: Just wanted to give you an update on Moose! He is settling in well
and adjusting to being with Mila. We are totally in love with him...so much so that Rachel has declared that Moose is her favorite. Moose is already sleeping on the bed with us at night and naps with me. He has also lost some weight and is more spry. I suspect it's because he chases Mila and I up and down the stairs many times a day.

Moxie adopted 2008 The Potter family Maryland
UPDATE!: Moxie loves to eat and knows exactly what time breakfast and dinner is. She has definitely come in and show the alpha boy in my house who the boss really is and he lets her much to our surprise. I have to admit we thought it would be a much tougher transition bringing in another dog with such an alpha boy but it has been anything but. She is such a wonderful dog and I have to admit I thought we would have to deal with some behavior and or housebreaking, or just an issue with the other dogs but nothing! We feel so blessed to have her in our lives and what a great feeling it has been to know that we gave a pug a wonderful home. We will be adopting again in the future from MAPR for sure. Thank you all for all that you do for the puggums!!

BEAN formerly known as Mr. T adopted by The Cheang/Ball Family Virginia UPDATE! Mr. Bean has been doing well--much more active than when we first met him (15 pounds of pure energy). I think that just means he is more comfortable with his new environment now. He is still afraid of new things (like going to petsmart, going to visit a neighbor), but we will continue to expose him to new environments so that he would get more comfortable. He loves to play catch. My 12-year old Polly is very tolerant of Bean (but she thinks it is stupid to play catch!). And Bean is very respectful to her. Bean loves to snuggle up to Polly!

Mr. Punky now called PICKLES! adopted Oct 2008 The Dickert/Newman Family New Jersey
UPDATE!: Mr. Punky (now "Pickles") is doing great! We love him so much!! He has so much personality and is perfect for our family. He and our lab, Mandy, have become best pals, playing and chasing each other around the house. Mandy is very gentle with her new brother, and Pickles follows her everywhere. We all enjoy the funny sounds he makes when he's trying to get Mandy to play with him -- he sounds just like E.T. the extraterrestrial! Pickles gets lots of exercise, and loves going on daily walks though the neighborhood and the woods nearby. He always wants to snuggle with his family, and has made himself at home in our beds! We are so happy to have him in our family, and are grateful to everyone at MAPR, especially Angie, Pamela, and Rachel who were so kind and helpful. Thank you so much for bringing Pickles into our lives!

|
Muffin now called Bindi The Lewis Family North Carolina UPDATE! (May 2008) Bindi (Muffin) has blossomed into a beautiful, soft, cuddly baby. She was shy and nippy when she first came as she was so unsure about us all and whether or not she could trust us . She's still a little not-so-nice to our puggie girl, but is very responsive to verbal correction, and buries her face when scolded. Everyday brings welcome changes as she adjusts to her new life, the cutest is when she tries to "talk" to us with little noises. We're so happy Mary took a chance on the little hippie pug! Although we didn't plan on adopting another, we are so happy we did. She makes our family so complete.

Mulder adopted January 2008 The Newton Family Washington D.C. UPDATE OCT 2008!: Mulder is fantastic! It was the perfect way to start off 2008. Mulder weighed almost 30lbs at the time of his adoption and has lost 8 lbs since then. He's been at 22lbs since the summer, and he feels great. He struts and stands tall! He also loves all of the attention that he gets. Mulder and I walk 15 to 20 minutes three times per day, and he's become a favorite around the neighborhood. In fact, one of my friends was walking him one day, and an older gentleman said to her, "You're not the lady who usually walks that dog." Children love to pet him, as he is very friendly. As a first-time dog owner, I must say, that Mulder is the perfect dog. I'm truly amazed at how quickly we bonded. He's my baby.
"Thank you MAPR for taking me in and finding me a forever home. My mama and I walk through the park and around the tidal basin, where people are always telling her how cute I am. I'm not sure that I like cute, but I'm definitely manly . . yes, I'm trim and manly. I love to run around my backyard, sit on the couch and look out the window, and of course, curl up with my mama to watch TV, listen to music, read, or nap -our favorite. I have new canine and human friends and have traveled to a few places, but my favorite place is home." ~Mulder

Napoleon aka "Poley" adopted may 25th 2008
Washington D.C.
UPDATE! ONE YEAR AFTER ADOPTION---May 2009: This weekend marks the 1st anniversary of our adoption of Napoleon (Poley). He won us over immediately and is the goofiest member of the Hulse clan! Since last May, Dom and I have had a pretty challenging year, completing 2 moves, getting married, taking 2 trips to England, losing both our jobs, taking the NY bar exam, getting into grad school and getting a new job! Little Poley has been a source of constant support and amusement throughout the journey, and we thank God every day that he chose us to look after him. I will never forget driving back from NC with a spastic pukey pug, but within 3 days his belly was sorted and he was forever ours.
Poley wanted to send a message himself, see the photo for evidence!
He continues to be an active little fella. I'm happy to report that we have moved out of the city and into a house with a fenced-in yard, so he has plenty of outdoors time to roll around in tall grass and chase sounds and smells. Our new neighbors have a Doberman, and Poley has a keen sense of self-defense -- small blind pug pees on fence whenever neighbor Doberman is around! (and Doberman sulks away). Despite his blindness, Poley runs up and down our steps at least 10 times a day. His sense of poop-dar is also very highly attuned, as he alerts us whenever our cat, Tino, has pooped in his box upstairs (we had to get a top-loading litter box because Poley was devouring the "treats").
His favorite activities include "going on an adventure" (a car trip), climbing around at Great Falls, getting petted by neighborhood kids and yummy mummies, and puppie pops from the local ice cream shop.
He has never shown one behavioral issue. He's extremely patient and just wants to chill with his peeps most of the time. We have never seen an ounce of aggression, except when he's trying to kill a stuffed toy. His biggest behavioral issue is getting him to stop rolling around in the grass so intensely (a habit he picked up when we first brought him to DC which continues to this day!) He has an online dating relationship with a black pug, Janet, and we may try to have the two meet up to make the flirtations a reality ;)
We love him forever and we are so thankful he's a part of our family! Thank you!

Norman and Walter adopted Sept 2008 The Renner Family Maryland
UPDATE!:Walter and Norman are settling in to a routine with my existing pug, Puglsey. It's a lot of Pug-power! They all take their 'watch-dog' job very seriously--a knock at the front door produces a rush and mayhem at the door. My next door neighbor's little girl is 15 months and has always refered to my dogs as the Woofs. Well, when she saw all 3, she was thrilled! Her eyes lit up and she kept chanting 'woofs, woofs'!

Obi adopted by The Yochum Family Maryland
UPDATE!: Obi travels well and charmed our Ocean City neighbors with his antics. He and Maddie are only apart when they are in their crates. Obi even naps on Maddie's back--too cute. Our six year old desperately wants Obi to be able to sleep with him. We might give it a try this summer. Maddie is simply too big to sleep with anyone and is perfectly happy snoozing in her crate (as is Obi). To be honest, it just feels like Obi's always been here. :-)

Opal adopted by The Jacobsen Family Virginia UPDATE!: She really is settling in beautifully: last Monday she was introduced to our vet and got a clean bill of health, thankfully! She's walking well on a harness and enjoys "walksies." This coming weekend I'm planning on taking her to a pug Meetup, along with Daphne and Lucy. I'm looking forward to introducing her to some of the group. She is truly an angel and thank you again for introducing her into our lives!

Oscar adopted 2008
UPDATE!: Dear Mary-- I am Oscar's new "GrandMom". My daughter adopted Oscar yesterday. I just want to let you know how much she loves him already! He is a really cool little guy! What personality! He did very well on the ride home yesterday and he loves to look out of the window. My daughter bought him a carseat today, so he will be able to do that in her car. We spent 2 hours at Petsmart today with Oscar. He did great meeting other dogs of all sizes. He seems to know he is in a safe place and he responds so well to everyone!
I also want to thank you for all you did for Oscar and for all you continue to do for the other rescued dogs. Oscar was very lucky to come into your care. And my daughter was very lucky to have the opportunity to give Oscar a forever home. We were all so in awe of your knowledge and the amount of love you show for the dogs you help. Thank you again! We would be glad to help in any way to get the word out about MAPR.
We wish you the best for a wonderful holiday--I know my daughter's will be super special this year!

OTIS adopted by The Vasquez Family North Carolina UPDATE! Otis is the perfect new addition to our family. He is already a mama's boy! If he isn't snuggled up in my lap, he is following me around the house. He went to the vet last week and is doing great! No accidents in the house- perfectly housetrained! Otis loves our walks around the neighborhood and playing with his squeaky toys! We are so lucky to have this sweet lil guy in our lives! Thanks MAPR!

OTIS adopted in 2005 The Powell Family UPDATE! AUG 2008! Wanted to give you an update on Otis - I adopted him in August 2005 but I noticed he's not listed on your "successes" page…and he needs to be! Attached is my favorite picture of him sleeping on the chair. Feel free to share this with everyone at MAPR. He is one of the best things I ever did! What a great "little old man" - Otis is now 12 but he is doing so well! He's in great health and gets regular check-ups. He LOVES to be in my lap - or anyone else's for that matter! He also adores my parents and gets excited when they come to visit. They live in SC and he even goes on "doggie vacations" a couple of times a year where he gets to spend time with them (they are both retired so he gets spoiled all day long!) and my father loves to take him for car rides, walk him around the pond and take him to the beach to chase seagulls…he loves to chase squirrels to but can never figure out where they go when they run up a tree! My parents are actually considering getting a pug but I've told them they cannot buy one, they must adopt via MAPR or another agency. Otis is such a good boy and has never had an accident in the house. My fiancé's two boys like him (one is 14 and the other is 16). The 14-year old is a dog-lover and every time they are with us he likes to sleep with Dylan, his "buddy", who I'm sure gives him little nibbles of things when I'm not looking. We sometimes call him by his "studly" name: "the O-Ty". He is quite the little character and gets excited when I have company and everyone in the neighborhood just loves him. Of course, he begs for food and immediately forgets as soon as he's been fed and when my fiancé, Steve, goes into the kitchen to cook, he will park himself there, waiting and hoping for something to fall on the floor. Otis is even prominently featured on our wedding website! Steve has learned to tolerate his snoring but is constantly amazed at the odd sounds he can make. Otis and Steve pretend they don't care for each other all that much when I'm around but I've busted Otis sleeping in Steve's lap a couple of times when I come back from traveling…I guess it's a guy-bonding thing! We are always laughing at his tongue that hangs out between his teeth and at the pathetic little faces he'll make when food is around. There are 3 other pugs in my neighborhood - one is an old, black female that we don't see very often and the other 2 have the same mom (one is fawn and the other is black)…they are fat little pugs and people always think Otis is younger because he's in such good shape - but really they are about half his age!! I've had a very busy last year+ so today was the first time in a long time, that I had been out to the MAPR site and I'm so happy to see all of the good things that are still happening. Mary, you are truly a saint and I'm so glad these little guys have you and everyone else at MAPR!

Otis and Rosie adopted by The Adler/Blum Family Maryland
UPDATE! 4-20-08: Rosie shows alot of personality and has learned to speak and howl and likes to put on a show for everyone. Otis likes to lay around on the bed... a personal favorite and the couch and cuddle right up next to you. Rosie has become a little daddy's girl and Otis a mama's boy, but we are fine with that. Rosie wakes us up at 6:00am sharp to let us know it's time to start the day. They enjoy going to the park and we are there almost everyday!!! Rosie's hair is beginning to grow back in on her behind and she had a cyst on one of her toes which has now gone away with the help of a cream and antibiotics. The vet said that they looked healthy and Rosie had some bloodwork to ensure that there were no other problems besides her allergies and the tests came back normal. They love to give kisses and lay on your lap. Rosie has found a niche in one of the window sills where she looks outside. Garrett works from home time to time and she insists on sitting in his lap the whole time he is working. It's hard to watch TV around them because as soon as an animal or ball are on the TV they are up and barking. They often snuggle together and it is the cutest thing in the world. As you can see they are very loved and spoiled. Their grand-mommies greeted them with baskets of toys and treats. We have been blessed with Rosie and Otis and I thank everyone who was involved with their help in matching these two with us.
***a new picture is on its way (That's Garrett's forte)
Once again, Thanks so much for these 2 little loves.

Pansy adopted March 2008 The Reich Family Washington D.C. UPDATE! May '08: Pansy is doing great!! She hangs out with me all day in my home office and I like to refer to her as my intern. Sometimes she hops up on my lap and I’m convinced she’s trying to send emails or something. Her health is good and we’ve developed a nice little routine. She still isn’t convinced that I really don’t want her to sleep in my bed every night, but we’ve come to an agreement…she let’s me have the bed until about 7AM at which time she generally comes up for a snuggle before her walk. We take lots of walks, so we’re both in great shape now. Don’t worry – I know that once it gets really hot, she won’t be able to do this as much b/c it’s hard to breathe.
One funny thing I noticed about her is that she’s not really all that into food…I don’t think she loves her brand, but that’s what her old family fed her so I stuck with it. And she doesn’t care at all about human food, which is good because she’s not getting any! The only thing I’d like to work on with her is that she’s become a bit of a barker. It’s like she realizes that she’s not going anywhere so she’s no longer on her best behavior…she will sit in the window sill and bark at dogs going by outside, and she HATES the UPS guy and the Chinese food delivery man. I really love her and I can’t imagine anyone ever giving her up. She cracks me up and I think she realizes she has a good life. It’s hard to tell though, because pugs always look sad. I tell people about MAPR all the time and hopefully some of them will listen…adoption is the way to go.

Papie_smurf now called "PIGLET" adopted June 13th 2008 The Malencia Family Maryland
UPDATE!:We've had Piglet now for just over a month, and we are so happy to have him as a part of the Melencio family. He loves to follow us both around the condo and is happy to just sit by us and sleep. He's still curious about his new home, but he knows when it's time to go to bed. He loves to sleep in and is usually the last one to wake up. He'll walk with us outside, but only when they're on his terms. Sometimes after his walks he gets tired, so we have to carry him. He recently started playing with the toy zebra his foster mom gave him when we adopted him. He loves attacking his zebra, as well as a little piggie we got him. He's really good about allowing us to clean his face and to put his eye drops in. Our extended family, neighbors and even strangers love him and think he is the most adorable pug ever. We agree and love our Piglet!

She enjoys our daily routine and is starting to come sit on my lap when the baby is not there, otherwise she sleeps or sits at my feet. Here is a pic of Gilmour and Pearl sitting on the couch. We bought her a new bed and for the last few nights her and Gilmour have been sleeping in it together. It is the cutest thing!

Percy now known as ELI adopted May 3rd 2008 The Thomas Family North Carolina
UPDATE!: Hi, I picked up Eli (formerly known as Percy) on Saturday. He is wonderful, but with a few issues to deal with. He is a little aggressive toward men, but fortunately the men in my household are understanding. As you can see in the pictures, he and my son, Sam, are now buddies. Eli loves sleeping in the bed with me and loves the other pets. I am totally in love. Eli’s foster mom, Niki, provided wonderful care for him. His eyes and skin are healing nicely. I enjoyed meeting her and her family.

Piccolo now called "LEVI" adopted July 2008 The Pollard Family Virginia
UPDATE SEPT '08: Levi has become an energetic little guy who is so full of love and likes to go for walks in the neighborhood, sniffing everything in site, and greeting everyone he sees. He also likes it when people tell him how cute he is. He's eager to please, very well behaved, and loves getting treats (doesn't every pug?). He likes getting kisses and cuddling up with me on the sofa at night. He loves car rides and even likes to dip his feet in the Chesapeake Bay. However, getting him to go potty on a rainy day is a whole other story. He likes to play with his favorite toy, a stuffed frog. When he wants to play, he will go to his crate, put the frog in his mouth and run into whatever room I am in and put it on my lap. ***I want to thank MAPR for bringing Levi into my life. My home was meant to be his forever home.

Pugsley adopted April 12 2008 The Vanty Family Virginia
UPDATE!: He has been with me a week now and I adore him. He is so cute and loving. He gets along well with Sandee, my 13 year old pug, and my 7 year old rottweiler. Sandee has taken a sort of motherly role with Pugsley. Pugsley is totally blind and there are some steps going down from my deck to the yard. When Pugsley gets too close without intending to go down the stairs, Sandee will nip at his neck and push him the other way so he does not fall down the stairs. She will also do this
when I am calling him and he does not come to me right away. It is really cute how this working out. I am so very glad that I decided to go with adopting a rescue rather than getting a new puppy. This experience has been very very rewarding for me. Thanks!!!

Pugzly adoptedJan 2008 The Edwards Family Virginia
UPDATE June 2008!:Pugsley-bug is doing quite well - it's his 5 month anniversary today and I think he's decided to keep us. He's still not crazy about his leash, but once you say "let's go to the park" he figures it's ok and wags his tail. He loves laying on the deck or on the front porch "surveying his property" as we say, and he's quite the protector when people come to the house (we've been having work done in our kitchen, and he definitely let's the workers know it's HIS house!) His confidence is building every day and he's very patient and good when we're cleaning his ears or giving his a bath. His fur coat is very lush and thick - and he get's very hot when the weather is warm - and cute because he has a snaggletooth smile when he pants : )We do miss Max lots but feel very lucky that Pugsley can into our lives. It's made a tremendous difference for Sophie and for us as well. Here's a recent picture of the two cuties - Pugsley always has to bring a toy when you come home

PUMPKIN adopted October 2008
UPDATE!: She's doing real good. At first she wasn't too interested in eating but has regained her appetite. She discovered the comfort zones around here and has made herself at home. All of the dogs like her, especially my oldest girl, Chanda, who now has a sister in kind. She's adapting quickly to our drills around here, though she seems to get up in her own sweet time in the morning. This morning, while all the other dogs wanted to go streaking out she stayed on her pillow quite content to get up when the mood hit her. She has been walking outside on her own with little help, though she sways quite a bit. But I just keep telling her to 'take it easy' and it seems she does and just moves along at her own pace. I've included a picture of her with Chanda (10yrs old).

Maddie Rose has "adopted" her as a mother figure and constantly is playing with her or sleeping on her. Raven is just the the most laid back, sweetest and dearest dogs you will ever meet. She has blended in great with our pack: Nicky, Rascal, Teddy, Molly Ann and Maddie Rose.

Reggie adopted May 2008 The Calle Family Pennsylvania
UPDATE!:He is doing extraordinarily well. We can't believe how quickly he has integrated himself into our lives and vice versa. We really have had no issues to deal with. From day one he and Annie have been best pals. He is spooked by the stairs in our house. We live in a 3-story row home in the Art Museum area in Philly so we have a lot of them. I think because they are hardwood stairs they don't have a lot of contrast and he has trouble with depth perception on them. We are having carpet runners installed in the hopes that they help him. He doesn't have problems on carpeted stairs. Until then, we are carrying him up and down (which I think he really prefers :-) I took Reggie and Annie to a little park near our home this morning and have attached some pictures. Enjoy!

Reggie now called LU adopted March 2008 The Gleave Family North Carolina
UPDATE!: Lu (Reggie) is doing great. He's a really smart boy, for being a crazy puppy and all! We love him and the other pugs here do too (secretly). Housetraining is going pretty well, he's much better about knowing what he's outside for but still hasn't quite figured out that outside is the ONLY place he should be going. He has learned how to sit and we're working on "dancing" for treats. Thank you for everything!!!

Regis n Rudy adopted February 2008 The Butler Family
UPDATE FEB 2009!!: Rudy & Regis, renamed Bobby (blue harness) and Paulie (red harness) for two Sopranos' characters, were adopted in February, 2008. Our 7-year old, black male pug, Sebastian, unexpectedly died, most likely of pug dog encephalitis. A pair of 7-year-old bonded males, Paulie is the leader, the "boss", and the protector. Bobby is a teddy bear of a pug, is very laid-back, likes to cuddle, and takes his cues from Bobby. They are very loved and cherished, and bring so much joy to us. Well-behaved the day they arrived, they continue to be sweet little guys who love to go outside for walks. Typical pugs, they like to snuggling with each other in their bed during the day and sleep in their humans' bed at night. We are thankful to MAPR for pairing us with Bobby and Paulie and appreciate how easy the adoption process was. Also, the information provided by the MAPR Yahoo Group is very informative and helpful.

Rocket now called Rocky adopted Nov 2008 The Lavach family Virginia
UPDATE! Feb 2009!:We just love our little "Rocky." He has become such a big part of our family. The girls love to snuggle him, and he is great playmate for Lola, our other little pug. He is the gentle giant--a big boy with a huge head and equally as large eyes! He is sooo sweet. Lola is his boss. She dictates which toys he can play with and when he can play with them. They wrestle inside and outside, every single day and evening! When, they are not wrestling, they are sleeping together in a little ball on a favorite couch, our daughters' beds, or sunny spot by the windows. We are extremely fortunate to have our little "Rockstar." He has been tenderly called "Licky" by many of our kids' friends. He lives up to his nickname. We just love him!

Rocky adopted July 2008 The Pless Family
UPDATE!!!: Rocky is a unique pup, very much his own personality. He and Bella are getting on just fine, in fact, Rocky has helped Bella exercise. Rocky is always ready to play and prior to Rocky joining our family, Bella was always ready to relax. It is good to see them playing inside and especially outside in the yard. They both run the entire width and length of the yard calling out to the children that play next door. Rocky has not shown any of the problems pointed out in the initial communications. 4 stars to Rocky…he’s a well behaved Pug. He loves riding in the car. In fact, he is a much better passenger than Bella.
He loves to walk the community with Bella. We walk twice a day and Rocky must be in the front. When we ask if they want to go for a walk, Rocky runs to his collar and leash and pulls it out. Who says “Dogs don’t understand”? He get’s so excited when it’s “Walk Time”. Rocky is a superior watch dog…he hears things that might be missed by others and clearly notifies us of his suspicions. He and Bella share the bed with us in the evenings. It’s nice of them to give us a corner which to call our own. All in all, it took about one day for Rocky to understand he was very much loved and accepted as an immediate member of our family, perhaps a little longer for our cat, but even she is ok with everything now. :-)

Roxanne aka Roxie adopted July 2008 Reid/Schwartz Family Maryland
UPDATE!!!: Roxie is amazing!! She has only had 1 episode of chewing and 1 accident in the house since we adopted her. She has adjusted well to city life and has met several other pugs in our neighborhood also adopted through MAPR. Last month we took her on vacation to Savage River Lodge, a dog-friendly retreat. She loved it! Every morning they left fresh muffins for us and dog biscuits for her. Maybe this winter or after our wedding we'll look at adopting a sibling for her. She has brought so much joy into our life!

Ruben now called "Gonzo" adopted August 2008 The Dean/McCleaf Family Delaware
UPDATE!FEB 2009!: Gonzo has adjusted nicely to his forever home and really loves to be where ever we are. If I am cooking dinner he is curled up at my feet, if I am watching TV he is laying on my stomach, he wants nothing more than to just be close. Our other pug, Buddha, has a bad habit of begging for food, at first when Gonzo wanted to be near us while we ate we thought he was begging. But we noticed he had no interest in the food we were eating, he just wanted to be close to us. Who can turn that down. That is just one of his charming qualities. He is the most verbal pug I have ever met. He rarely barks, but he wooo's with excitement whenever someone comes in the door or when he is being served a meal. We have daily conversations and he always has something interesting to say. We love him dearly.

SADIE adopted Sept 2008 The Vaughan Family Maryland
UPDATE: Jan. 2009!: Sadie has gotten several nicknames. It started with "Toot Toot" and has morphed into Little Toot, Tootle Lu, Tootle and Noodle. We love her dearly! She seems to be very happy - she's active and affectionate to everyone, and is very good with the cats. She and Buddy have recently become obsessed with the squirrels that I feed in the woods on the other side of our fence. We love our long walks everyday, and she's pretty tough about cold weather; rarely wears the lovely pink polka dot sweater! I've included a picture of her sitting against my husband's legs. This is her place during dinner every night. We couldn't have gotten a better dog.

Sally adopted 2008 The McCarraher family Maryland UPDATE!:Kowabunga Dudes! Hey it's me Sally formally from North Carolina now residing at the beach in Ocean City, Maryland! Sun, Sand, and Surf - who knew I was a "Beach Bunny"!
WOW has my life changed. Before being adopted I has some major problems and some serious surgery but I'm all better now and living it up. Since being adopted I've had some wonderful times with my new family in my forever home. I have a little brother Tucker, a Yorkie, he is kind of Anti-Pug but I'm growing on him - he is so bossy! My mommy takes me to work with her everyday, one block from the beach. When I get to work I'm greeted by my co-workers, three female pugs: Candy & Emma, two year old sisters (they belong to the boss) and Layla who is just a baby at five months (she belongs to one of the other ladies in the office Jill). Oh yea I can't forget about baby Charlie the Jack Russell. What a great place to work, we play all day, eat treats, nap and go for walks! I have my own personal bed right under my mommy's desk - what a life! To all of you waiting for your perfect family - be patient it is soooo worth it when it finally happens!

Sam now called "Edgar" adopted May 2008 The Cromer-Pearson Family Virginia
UPDATE!: Edgar joined our family just about a month ago, and immediately filled a void we didn't realize had been a part of our lives. He has been a complete joy! He is very smart, and as a puppy, rather energetic. We enjoy taking walks, and playing with other dogs at the park. Edgar also spends his time doing "homework" for the beginning training course we are enrolled in. Favorite activities include: playing fetch, running up and down the stairs for hours on end, following Dad around everywhere, and laying on the back of the couch in the living room so he can look out the window. Thanks MAPR, and especially Tina, for ALL of your hard work and help!

Sasha now called "CRICKET" adopted July 11th 2008 The Hitchcock Family New York City, New York
UPDATE!:THANK YOU for the wonderful opportunity to add to my family and being adopted by Cricket (formerly Sasha while in rescue at MAPR with Melinda and Tina). She is a true lover (with an appropriate bit of NYC sass!) and has won my heart, and is creeping into my other pug's (a true mama's boy), Beasley, heart as well. Cricket fell into our routine without any hitches - no accidents in the house and taking to the food transition very well. I was a little worried about the transition to being a backyard potty-er to a leash potty-er ... Cricket has handled it like a champ. We established the house rules very quickly, with some serious help from the groundwork laid by Tina and Melinda. The two furbabies are getting along very well. Cricket doesn't make a peep and is rarely deterred from her efforts to LOVE her pack!
In fact, we had the most precious pug-pack moment this morning -- the cutest one yet!! Cricket LOVES to lick me, and she also occassionally will lick Mr Beasley on the face or ear. This morning after breakfast and playing, we were having quiet time on the couch. Cricket stopped licking me, and started to lick Beasley. She licked his left eye (which is blind), and his ear, then his neck. This went on for more than 10 minutes and Beasley just sat there peacefully, leaning into the love, and eventually dozing off on my lap. It was a moment that I wish I had captured on camera, but that would not have done justice to the tenderness of the entire thing. Thank you again for all of your wonderful work. Tina, you have been amazingly supportive and so helpful since you and I started communicating back in January. We are so appreciative.

Scooby now known as Scylla adopted Jan. 12th 2008 The Murphy Family Raleigh, NC
UPDATE!!!:Scylla is doing fabulous. She has bonded well with Cerberus and they have lots of fun together. It has turned out to be a perfect match for all involved. I don't think she could be happier. Thank you so much for all your help in working, not only with Scylla, but with all pugs.

Scout adopted 2008 The Lathe Family Maryland
UPDATE!:Things with Scout are going great he has completely become a part of our family and both he and his sister Marley are looking forward to spending the week with their Grandma while my husband and I are off on our honeymoon. They are spoiled wherever they go and Scout is known for his love of comfort. If I go up to the bedroom for even a minute he's right behind me sleeping on the bed. Or, if you get up from the couch to grab a drink he'll go right to where you were sitting. I have attached a photo of Scout and Marley that we used as stamps on our wedding invitations. Tragically, they could not participate in the wedding, but I used their photos as table numbers!

Sherry J-formerly "Hazel" adopted 2008 The Weaver Family Maryland
UPDATE!: Sherry J is doing fine...almost housebroken, she is getting in shape and adapting well. Things are going pretty good. We are still working on house-training issues. She has quite a personality. I start to think we are there and then she doesn't like if I go somewhere, so she goes in the house. We went to a 6 week dog/puppy training class. She responded to 1/2 of the commands. My family and friends that have come and seen her say she is Mommy's girl and seems very happy. Her and the cats (3 of them) don't seem to be bothered with each other, no fighting, eating each others food. Sherry J stays away from the litter boxes.
Overall I wouldn't trade her for anything. She is right now at me feet begging for treats and lovin'. She moans when we pet her....its tooooo funny. Thanks again.

Smidge The Keinig Family Virginia UPDATE!:Smidge is very cuddly and sweet. She does like sleeping on a cushion on the kitchen chair...she hops right up. I think she wants first cracks at any food that may be there, but we are careful not to leave tempting snacks within her reach. She has fit right in to our family and we just love her. We are used to her grunts and wheezes (hey, you know where she is!) -- and she's a pleasure to have.

Snowball now called PENNY adopted 2008 The mcCord Family Maryland
UPDATE 2009!!: Penny is doing so well! She has been with us for almost a year now and I can't imagine life without her! She loves eating anything and everything, chasing the cat, cuddling on the couch and long walks around the neighborhood. I feel so lucky to have such a sweet baby in our family! I don't think I had any idea how attached I would get to her, but I enjoy every second we get to spend together. I am so thankful for all the wonderful things that MAPR does. Thank you!!!

Soo-Linn & Tucker-The-Cat! adopted July 10th 2008 The Snell Family Alabama
UPDATE!:Everyone is doing great. Sophie and Soo-Linn are starting to engage in play with one another now and it's very cute! Soo-Linn has been the initiator so far, but Sophie's following her lead for sure! Soo-Linn runs like a puppy...you were right, she has loads of energy! Tucker is doing very well too, he spends most of his time to himself on the dining room chairs, but occasionally he comes out and joins us all. He's a wonderful cat. Eli has met Tucker. They haven’t hissed or fought or anything. I just can't say thank you enough for giving us the opportunity to adopt Soo-Linn and Tucker...we feel really blessed and fortunate.

Spike adopted March 2008 The Emerson/Smith Family Virginia UPDATE! Spike is fitting in very nicely. He is lots of fun to have around, and also well behaved. He loves playing with his toys, and cuddling up with Aileen and I on the couch. He was being fostered in a rural area, but seems to have adjusted well to Arlington--I take him on 3 long walks a day and I sense he loves the adventure of new sounds and sights. When we leave the house, he just chills out and takes a nap. I took him to the dog park yesterday and he seemed a little shy around other dogs but even then there was one dog he wanted to make friends with, but that dog was more into chasing tennis balls! He is an all around great dog!! We feel truly blessed that Spike was available for adoption at the time we were looking.

UPDATE!:Iggy has been a WONDERFUL dog. He was the perfect dog for us and we are so lucky to have had such a great match by our coordinator Pat. He loves to cuddle and seems to think that Bonnie's lap belongs to him. And I guess he is right. he's so loving and sweet and listens so well. Everyone who meets him comments on what a great dog he is and how cute his little peeper tongue is. He is a real ladies man and the "stud" of the neighborhood. We actually have neighbors BEGGING us to pet sit him. We can't believe how much love he has brought us and everyone around us. We don't know what we did before we had him and we can't imagine our lives without him.

Teddy Ruxpin adopted 2008 The Cubbage Family Virginia
UPDATE! AUG 2009: Teddy is my dream dog. He is cuddly and sweet. He craves nothing more than to love and be loved. Teddy is my own personal shadow in the house and yard. At night, he sleeps on the pillow beside me; he looks so peaceful that I don't even pay attention to the snoring.

Teddybear(renamed "Orson") adopted by The Shields Family Maryland UPDATE! APRIL '08 Orson is one-of-a-kind, fabulous, and the best addition to "our pug family!" He amazes me on a regular basis. He is a quick learner and his grandpa (better known as his g-daddy!) and "brothers" are teaching him well. He is very vocal and lets everyone know when he wants attention. He has quite a "switch". When it is "off" he is sweet, cuddly, and one of the best snuggle bunnies. When it is "on" look out - he is full of energy, vocal, playfully bites, and runs around. He has graduated from staying in his crate during the day to staying with the others in the bedroom. I think he enjoys the company; however, if left too long, he decides that he is going to ransake the laundry basket. I have come home on two occasions to the bedroom being covered in all the laundry. Not sure what his infatuation is. He also likes the dishwasher and makes sure the dishes are extra clean. photo:From left to right- Mugzee, Bear, Orson (previously Teddybear), and Pudge

Toby adopted July 2008 Gentry/McCray Family Virginia
UPDATE! June 2009: Will and I adopted Toby last July, and he just becomes more adorable every day. I cannot tell you how much joy he brings to Will and me every day, as well as his grandparents and our 3 cats! Will and I got married on June 9. We had a very small wedding at the beach with only our immediate family, and I am excited to tell you that Toby was the Best Man. I am sending you a picture of Toby with his bowtie. Thank you ladies for bringing Toby into our lifes- I have no doubt that he was meant to be with us.

Tobyadopted Dec. 2008 The Coman Family
UPDATE!:Toby took very well to his new home. Indeed, one could argue almost too well. Instead of fawn pug hair, I now have black pug hair all over the place. He is a sweetheart of a pug and a super type B dog. If my old pug who passed away (he was from MD Pug Rescue) was the Woody Allen of pugs, Toby is like the Arnold of pugs. He enters a room like he is running for class president, unafraid of anyone, canine or human, but without being aggressive. Thanks for introducing us! We are having a delightful time!

Truffles (renamed "Shea") adopted Feb 2008 The Sauer Family North Carolina UPDATE!! Shea is doing so well. She is such a joy and my little sidekick. She is adjusting a lot better since first bringing her home. Her crying when I leave is minimal now. I do bring her for play-dates about 3 - 4 days a week while I am at work. So, the crying episodes are minimal. She finally LOVES the Kong toy you recommended, despite her resisting it for a few weeks. One thing that I did find that really helped was when I confine her to the kitchen, I spray the wood gate, floor mat and her bed with Lavender scented pillow mist (from Bath & Body Works). I can not believe it but the Lavender scent calms her down.
Her eye is healed, although she will have a small scar permanently. Honestly, unless you know it is there, you would never notice. She LOVES baths, getting brushed and has her favorite "babies"... little stuffed toys.

Tubby adopted Feb 2008 The Herrin Family South Carolina UPDATE!May 2008 I am very glad to have Tubber in my home. He has such a good personality he has just fit right into my life. His favorite thing (after food) is a good car ride, especially if it involves going to McDonalds for fries. He likes going to the grands baseball games, really enjoys the attention he gets! His personality is very different from my girls', and that is good. He has made his own place, not filled an empty place. Thanks to all who helped make his adoption possible!

Tucker and Spencer The Weiler family
UPDATE! JAN 2009: We adopted Spencer and Tucker back in August---They have been wonderful! They have blended with the other dogs in the house really well as you would think that they have all been together since they were puppies. Tucker is now down to an ideal weight (if there is such a thing for a pug), Spencer is right along with Tucker…whatever Tucker is doing Spencer is right behind him even if it involves them getting into trouble! Which they do very often…our four yr old refers to them as double trouble! They have brought us such joy and much entertainment.

Zeus adopted 2008 The Blankenship Family
UPDATE OCT 2008!: Well, it has been a little bit of time since I found my new mommy and I will say I absolutely love this life! My mommy says that I am a prince, so that is what I decided to be for Halloween. My other choices were the “Kissing Bandit” because while I’m walking around my community, I love to run up to all the children and babies…and give them a kiss to spread all the love I have around and then I run away….or the “Cookie Monster” because when my mommy walks away, I try to sneak into the “Cookie jar” to get some extra treats….too bad she put them in a container that I can’t get into! My mommy says I’m a great help too, my mommy doesn’t hear too well and I tell her when someone is at the door knocking or when there or when a little rectangular thing starts to play music I let her know, and then she talks into it…..when I let her know I get some extra loving.
I also have a special friend, his name is Wesley and my mommy says that he is a very special child because he is Autistic. When I get to see Wesley, I know that I am very careful and gentle with him and for some reason he laughs and smiles when he pets me.
I just wanted to say Thank you Mid-Atlantic Pug Rescue for giving me this life!
